Splinterlands: Gladiator Grind

The grand prize when opening Gladius packs is not a Gold Foil or a Legendary card, for months now it has been Quora Towershead. She is a Earth Splinter Epic cards that is very unique and powerful when put together with certain cards during Brawls. Her two pronged attack of melee and magic provides double damage which makes her dangerous at almost any position. Given the amount of rule sets she can take advantage of, the card is the most sought after in the game for those participating in Guild Brawls.

I myself have been grinding for Gladius packs for over a year now trying to combine and increase there level as their utility has gained traction as of late. First, the development team introduced a rule set where we can use Gladiators outside of Brawl battles. This gave their utility and exponential increase and while their level was not important for brawl given the level playing field on restrictions, now the race to get them up to the higher leagues will provide interesting advantages for top tier player. Second, the team introduced new Soulbound Summoners, each with the ability to use Gladiators at any time no matter the rule set. This has intensified the grind for me and Gladiators.

Luckily, we have also been getting great ways to get more merits. Having them available in chests these days helps a lot and I think it also pushes more players to be part of Guilds and participate in Brawls. This sense of community is great for an ecosystem we have as it brings great passion on our Collections and battles. Since the inclusion of SPS in Brawl rewards, it has also increased the race to upgrade everything. Given the limited crowns available each Brawl, competition has skyrocketed as I have seen Guilds that were used to Top 3 place at the bottom of the leaderboards. This increase has also accelerated the availability of merits which lead to more Gladius packs being opened.

I was happy in my latest bulk opening to find 3 Quoras so the grind has paid off in the short term. This now unlocks Immunity for the card which is key in the infamous toxic fumes rule set. It makes the match up with my favorite Summoner, Scarred Llama Mage, even more deadly for opponents. In the beginning of the Gladiator grind (and now Soulbound card grind), I was disappointed on not having the ability to buy into having a full Collection. I do not like RNG much (because it doesn’t like me); however, I cannot say that I do not enjoy the intensity of opening packs to see what lies inside. The grind will continue for some time as most players are far from complete sets!
