Some of you might not know this but, my school is located in the Northern part of the country and being someone who has lived in the south all my life things were a bit hard for me when I first moved here. Now I know my way around and also know how to go about my daily activities. I actually like it here.
After 3 years of staying here it’s no news that I know when it is a market day. I was told every three days is a market day. Weird right? I guess this is because it’s a small community and traders need to make some money for their upkeep and other stuff.

So, today being a market day I woke up early and I was ready to leave for the market at 12:30am. I left at this time because there would be more people and goods available at that time.

this is my shopping bag.😅
decided to pay me a visit and escort me to the roadside just because he was trying to bribe me to get him something from town. I forced him for this picture but the sun was too hot so it didn’t turn out well.

The place looked deserted since most people were busy with academics and all. I was busy with getting foodstuffs.😅

We arrived at the roadside within a few minutes and I had to go withdraw some cash because I can’t go to the market empty handed. This is acting like my money is his.

After getting my money, I boarded a tricycle and made my way to the Navrongo market. It was a 10 minutes ride.

We had to make a stop at the electricity vending point cos I needed to buy prepaid for my hostel since we didn’t have electricity.

We arrived within a few minutes and the place was busy as usual. I made my way to the main part of the market. The route looked really overcrowded and uncomfortable.

On my way, I passed by the fabric section. Here you get all kinds of fabrics. The display looks really nice from afar. These fabrics are mostly sold by men over here but that’s not the case in the capital(Accra)

Then, I passed by the boots and slipper section. I didn’t need anything there so I didn’t stop.

Then we have the wholesale drink shop. I think this is the only wholesale shop in the whole market.

I stopped here to get some detergent.

I also got some spices here.

And some vegetables. They were quite cheap today as compared to other days. I guess that’s because it was a market day.

I got some fish here for my okro soup. The fish was very hot and fresh. You should have seen the joy on my face.😅

I planned to preparing shito( black pepper) so I bought some ginger from here. She had other stuff but I didn’t know what they were and I didn’t bother to ask because I was already exhausted.

I proceeded to get some corn dough and cassava dough for my banku.

I saw these hand made brooms and my way so I took a picture so I can show you all. I’m sure most of you haven’t seen these before. They are made from dry or wet palm fronds.

I also saw these earthenware bowls. In Ghana we have two different types. One is used for grinding vegetables and other stuff while the other is used to serve some local dishes such and banku and fufu.

I also took a picture of this. This is dried fish used to make food or pepper.

I also brought some fresh okro for my soup. It was really expensive.😭

I took a couple of pictures from other shops around.

Since I had bought everything I needed, I made my way to the roadside to board a tricycle back to campus.

It was already late and I needed to get to the hostel to prepare supper.

I arrived on campus and the place looked quite deserted. I was glad because I didn’t want anyone to see me in my situation. I looked really exhausted and dirty. Like someone coming from a typical market.😂

Unfortunately and fortunately for me, I met a friend who helped me carry my stuff. We are in the same hostel so I gladly accepted the help.

At the hostel, I packed all my stuff in my big basin and this is all what I got with 1cedi change.
Whew! All my money is gone just like that.🥹
I had a very good time at the market and I even made a few friends.
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed the whole experience.
