The advancement of technology over the years is something we have all lived through over the years. We saw how the world transitioned from being able to send a message to someone in about a week to reaching anyone with just a single tap. It’s amazing how much we have evolved over the years as a people and this advancement has and is still benefiting us all as it stands now.

Transportation is a huge part of our daily lives as individuals. Most if not all of us need a means of transportation to go about our daily activities. It could be a private car, a public bus, train or even a bike. As far as it takes you to where you are headed, you’re good to go. Cars especially are a common means of transportation for us all each day. Most of us have our own cars and those of us who don’t make use of public ones.
Thanks to technology we have a variety of cars with different specs and of different sizes to fit everyone’s preferences. Over the years, we have all come to see and know of the emergence of ai and electronic gadgets to help us with our daily activities. I once saw a robot at an airport serving as a guide and also another serving as a means to collect and store refuse around the airport. As amazing as it sounds, we have somehow also managed to come about with electronic and self driving cars.
As a Ghanaian, I know my country does have a long way to go when it comes to such technology but in other counties, it’s happening. If you should ask any African if he would hop into a self driving car, they’d most definitely say no and add that their village people will follow them and kill them. I mean, it’s a normal joke we all make over here but truthfully, we most likely wouldn’t sit in a self driving car.
I on the other hand am a curious person and I would love to sit in a self driving car. But I’d be scared shit if anything should go wrong. As much as I love the idea of self driving cars, I don’t think the world is ready for it because technology was created by man and anything could go wrong. A wrong code or malfunction could lead to a lot of casualties. And in such instances, who are we really gonna blame. We obviously can’t blame the car because it’s functioning how it’s meant to. And I don’t think we can blame the manufacturer or the owner because they would argue their part very well.

These vehicles are build to function in an ideal world. Imagine sitting in a self driving car in a crazy town in Ghana or Nigeria where anyone can just cross you on the road. I don’t think the developers envision that something that would happen but I actually a possibility. Most of the drivers on the street today are not law abiding. Some are driving under the influence , some also drive while texting and a whole lot. Anything can happen on the street out there and it’s better to be safe than sorry.
I am for the idea of self driving cars but I believe the world is just not ready for it yet.
