Growing up, I was always told by older people that things were very different and easy during the time they were growing up. Today,I would also tell the young and upcoming ones the same thing- the era I grew up in was the best, especially my childhood. Everyone would say their childhood was the best era but you see the period between the end of the 90s to the early twenties, that was peak peak best era, ngl.
The period when I was born had to be the softest era ever because the system was working. Then, my dad was furthering his education all over the world and I was living my life because I always had goodies and new stuff from over the world to share with my friends. And honestly, these times things were a lot easier than they are now. Goods and service were affordable for all. Schooling was cheaper than it is today.
You could go to university, further to even your PhD and you’d be able to complete everything and get a well paying job. You’d probably have a good and comfortable life by 25 just like I dreamt I would have then. I guess this dream of mine stemmed from the fact that people 25 and above then could start their lives then- have a partner, a decent job,a home and even think of starting a family. My dad started his family pretty early- he wasn’t rich rich, but we were more than comfortable just like every other person then.
And oh, when we talk about enjoyment and the spirit of community, those were the days. People would actually leave everything they were up to just to sit with others and stream football matches. Others would dress up as masquerade and dance at the end of every match. During election season, there was literally music everywhere from the various political parties. There was fun everyday, everything and honestly, these memories are ones I don’t think will ever escape me.
Someone will say this era is the best era - I’d say it’s the best era in terms of technology. But when it comes to real fun, real living, the spirit of community and oneness, the era of no pressure to make it in life, the era where everyone was content, let’s give it to the late 90s to the early 2000s
But then again, I can’t say that this era isn’t one of the best eras to live in. Most people would kill to enjoy the opportunities and life we get to live today. Thanks to technology , we are able to explore various aspects of life with no hassle. What a time to be alive indeed!
