What is a Ketogenic Diet?
A ketogenic diet is a protocol in which your body uses its fat as the main source of fuel your body runs on. Most people use glucose as its main source of fuel for the body. Glucose is a very easy fuel source for the body to break down and use for energy. When the body does not have glucose to use, the body will start to use its fat reserves and break it down into keto bodies. Your body will then use those keto bodies to make energy.
This is just scratching the surface on the biological process that happens. I encourage you to do your own research and use that knowledge to help you through these Waters. The ketogenic diet sounds like it could be terrifying and overwhelming especially when you hear big scientific words. Once you understand the basics of it, it's actually not that difficult of a diet at all. The main points about this diet are eating 10% of your daily calories with carbohydrates, 20% protein and most of your calories are made up of 70% healthy fats and oils.
This diet saved my life. I was well on my way to diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension, and obesity. At my highest weight I was 250 lb and in so much pain from the inflammation in my joints. I lost around 60 lb within 6 months on this diet and yes, the weight loss was awesome yes, but weight loss was only one of many positives that happened during this time. My energy levels increased so much, I was sleeping better at night, my acne cleared up, and my depression slowly vanished. Please, consult your doctor before trying this diet.
