I don't think I had proposed the idea of making a fan art until now, as you may already know, I love reading, and I usually find a lot of fan art of popular young adult novels like Under the same star or Eleanor and Park, it's something very nice to see, so it's curious that I hadn't proposed the idea of doing the same.
Actually, this drawing didn't come up because I wanted to make a fan art, it's actually thanks to my design theory class where I was asked to design or draw a poster of a movie I really liked; I'm finishing the first semester of graphic design so in this activity the teacher would be evaluating how we apply what we learned about the elements of composition, so for this I chose an anime movie I saw a few months ago called Paprika: dream detective (in fact, I got to review the movie [here](https://peakd. com/hive-166847/@nicxi/paprika-dream-detective-or-a-film-that-will-take-you-on-a-journey-into-the-dream-world-paprika-detective-of-dreams-or-a-peli))).
The reason why I chose this movie and not any other is because of the psychological and mystery component of its plot. I really like to play with the elements in my drawings, I like surrealist art and as it is a style that I have already put into practice, it would not be so complicated to create a composition inspired by Paprika.
This movie plays with your mind, you don't know what is real and what is not, the main character Paprika is a kind of alter ego that appears in the dream plane and helps several scientists who try to help patients with psychological ailments and traumas... it's a very strange movie, but I highly recommend to see it, if you want to know a little more about it, I invite you to read my review.
Process:
Thinking about what I wanted to depict took me some time and research on the original posters of this movie, at first I thought about doing the main character in full body, but then I thought I didn't have much time to be able to deliver the activity on time (the activity is due today, and I started on Sunday, haha), so I ended up deciding to draw Paprika's profile portrait.
On the head I wanted to incorporate the body of a butterfly because they have a symbolic meaning in the plot, and inside them I drew some eyes with a more realistic style than the portrait below because I thought it would be interesting to play with these two styles at the same time.
Coloring Paprika's body was fast, I was guided by some reference images of this character and I kept some details of the animation style; on the other hand, for the eyes I spent at least a couple of hours to make them look realistic.
At this point I modified some things I had planned in the sketch, for example, I had thought that the bigger butterfly would merge somehow with the eyes, but I ended up placing it behind everything, adding a slight movement effect and lowering the opacity of the layer, I feel that this way there is better contrast between the eyes and the huge butterfly.
I wasn't happy with the fact that the head was empty inside, so I decided to add smaller butterflies inside it, as if they were ideas or thoughts looking to be expressed beyond the limits of their mind.
And that was it, I also added the title with the name of the movie in order to deliver the activity, but I like how it looks without it too.

Creo que hasta ahora no me había propuesto la idea de hacer un fan art, como ya deben saber, adoro leer, y suelo encontrar muchos fans art de las novelas juveniles populares como Bajo la misma estrella o Eleanor y Park, es algo muy lindo de ver, así que es curioso que no me haya propuesto la idea de hacer lo mismo.
En realidad, este dibujo no surgió porque quisiera hacer un fan art, en realidad es gracias a mi clase de teoría del diseño donde me pidieron diseñar o dibujar un afiche de una película que me gustara mucho; estoy finalizando el primer semestre de diseño gráfico así que en esta actividad la profesora estaría evaluando como aplicamos lo aprendido sobre los elementos de la composición, así que para ello escogí una película de anime que vi hace unos cuantos meses atrás llamada Paprika: detective de sueños (de hecho, llegué a reseñar la película aquí).
La razón por la que escogí esta película y no cualquier otra es por el componente psicológico y de misterio de su trama. A mí me gusta mucho jugar con los elementos en mis dibujos, me gusta el arte surrealista y como es un estilo que ya he puesto en práctica, no sería tan complicado crear una composición inspirada en Paprika.
Esta película juega con tu mente, no sabes qué es real y qué no, la protagonista Paprika es una especie de alter ego que se presenta en el plano oníricos y ayuda a varios científicos que tratan de ayudar a pacientes con padecimientos y traumas psicológicos... es una película muy extraña, pero que recomiendo mucho ver, si quieres saber un poco más sobre ella, te invito a leer mi reseña.
Proceso:
Pensar en qué quería plasmar me llevó algo de tiempo e investigación sobre los afiches originales de esta película, en principio pensé en hacer al personaje principal de cuerpo completo, pero luego pensé que no tenía mucho tiempo para poder entregar a tiempo la actividad (la actividad vence hoy, y empecé el domingo, jaja), así que terminé por decidir dibujar el retrato de perfil de Paprika.
sobre la cabeza quise incorporar el cuerpo de una mariposa porque tienen un significado simbólico en la trama, y dentro de ellas dibujé unos ojos con un estilo más realista que el retrato de abajo porque pensé que sería interesante jugar con estos dos estilos a la vez.
Colorear el cuerpo de Paprika fue rápido, me guie de algunas imágenes de referencia de este personaje y conservé algunos detalles del estilo de animación; por otro lado, para los ojos dediqué al menos un par de horas hasta lograr que se vieran realistas.
En este punto modifiqué algunas cosas que tenía planeadas en el boceto, por ejemplo, había pensado que la mariposa más grande se fusionara de alguna manera con los ojos, pero terminé por colocarla por detrás de todo, agregarle un efecto de movimiento leve y bajarle la opacidad a la capa, siento que de esta manera hay mejor contraste entre los ojos y la mariposa enorme.
No me sentía conforme con el hecho que la cabeza estuviera vacía por dentro, así que decidí añadir mariposas más pequeñas dentro de ella, como si fueran ideas o pensamientos que buscan ser expresados más allá de los límites de su mente.
Y eso fue todo, también agregué el titulo con el nombre de la película para poder entregar la actividad, pero a mi me gusta como se ve sin él también.
