Wild apricots are named for their appearance rather than their taste. Like all wild fruit, this one has a large pip (seed) in relation to the fruit, unlike the cultivated fruits that we eat that have been bred over generations to have smaller seeds and larger flesh. The fruit has a pleasant but tart, sherbet-like flavour and is very high in Vitamin C.
Wild apricot plants are a common and distinctive low shrub in the grasslands although like most of the plants here, they are adapted to survive fire and they do this by growing within rock formations, as this one has. It seem more like a creeper than a bush, with long stems that trail along the rocks. it is also highly adapted to the geology of the area, because it only grows in quartzite outcrops
