#HODAlicante kicked off with a bang, and when I say “a bang,” I'm not just talking about the great vibes, the event organization, or all the contests and activities we found out about during the welcome talk—I'm also talking about all the food you'd expect to try when you come to Spain.
We got off to a great start in the event hall with a fully catered spread that I personally enjoyed immensely—proof of this is that many of the photos of me out there show me constantly stationed at the catering bar, as if I were living there. I couldn’t miss out on the feast.
But each venue had a time limit, and we’d planned to spend more time together outside the main venue, so we waited for instructions via Telegram and headed to the next stop at 8 p.m., where we’d have dinner together. The difficult thing in these kinds of situations—where some attendees arrive so exhausted from traveling that they can’t make it to dinner, or others arrive later from their trips—is that it’s very complicated to make a reservation in advance, so we had to find a place without much notice.
Los #HODAlicante comenzaron con todo, y cuando me refiero a todo, no hablo solamente de las buenas bivras, la organización del evento o todos los concursos y actividades de los que nos enteramos en la charla bienvenida, sino tambien de toda la comida que te esperarías probar llegando a España.
Comenzamos muy bien en la sala de eventos con un catering super completo que yo particularmente disfruté muchísimo, prueba de ello es que, muchas de las fotos mías que hay por ahí, me retrataron continuamente apostada en la barra del catering, como si allí estuviera viviendo. No podía perderme el festín.
Pero cada espacio tenía su tiempo límite y habíamos planeado pasar más tiempo juntos fuera del recinto base, así que esperámos las indicaciones por Telegram y acudimos a la siguiente parada a las 20h, en donde cenaríamos juntos. Lo dificil en este tipo de situaciones, en las que algunos asistentes llegan tan agotados de viajar que no dan para unirse a la cena o que otros llegan de viaje mas tarde, es que se complica mucho hacer una reserva propia, así que había que conseguir un sitio sin mucho tiempo de antelación.
The venue we chose for our first dinner was 100 Montaditos, a popular tapas chain in Spain that, in addition to being known for its affordable prices, features spacious locations with plenty of tables. Just what we needed.
Our idea was to find a place where we could all sit close together and stay within the event’s food budget, since, as is customary at these #BuzzParty events, a couple of dinners are included for attendees.
For those unfamiliar with the chain—which can be hard to imagine, given its locations across several countries in Europe, North, and Central America—one of the things that makes this place appealing is its constant food and drink deals. Every day of the week there’s a bargain to be had, and if you want to unwind without worrying too much about your wallet, this is the perfect spot.
When we arrived, we asked for a large table on the second floor of the restaurant, which was less crowded, since the outdoor terrace and the main dining room were packed. Although all the tables are quite small, they let us push several of them together so we could sit as a group, even though we were three different party groups.
It was Double-Up Thursday, and that worked out perfectly for us! Two appetizer portions for the price of one, with the option to choose different items. It was great for those who were hungry, and for those of us who weren’t—since we’d stuffed ourselves at the buffet earlier—it was a good way to share with someone else and stay within our budget, including drinks.
We spent a while figuring out the wide range of options on the menu, which was conveniently printed on each table, but after double-checking with the waiter about the daily special, we decided that ordering the double portions was much more appealing to all of us. However, the name of the place refers to the hundreds of versions of the mini sandwiches offered, called montaditos, but after the previous feast, we weren’t really in the mood to eat a lot of bread.
El destino elegido para nuestra primera cena fue 100 Montaditos, una cadena de tapas muy común en España que, además de ser famosa por sus precios accesibles, cuenta con locales muy amplios y gran cantidad de mesas. Justo lo que necesitabamos.
Nuestra idea era contar con un lugar en donde pudieramos sentarnos todos cerca y que se mantuviera dentro del presupuesto del evento destinado a la comida, pues como es costumbre en estos eventos de #BuzzParty, hay un par de cenas incluidas para los asistentes.
Para los que desconozcan la cadena, que a veces resulta difícil de imaginar, teniendo sucursales en varios países de Europa, Norte y Centro América; una de las cosas que hace atractivo a este sitio son las perennes ofertas en comida y bebida que ofrecen, cada día de la semana hay algún chollo que aprovechar y, si lo que deseas es desconectar sin preocuparte mucho por el bolsillo, este es un sitio ideal para hacerlo.
All llegar consultamos por una mesa grande en la segunda planta del local, que estaba más desocupada, pues la terraza exterior y la sala principal estaban abarrotadas, y aunque todas las mesas son pequeñitas, nos dejaron juntar muchas de estas para sentarnos juntos, y sin embargo ocupabamos tres grupos diferentes.
¡Nos tocó Jueves de Doblemanía y esto nos venía súper bien! Dos raciones de entradas por el precio de una y con opción de que fuesen diferentes. Para los que estuviesen hambrientos estaba genial y para los que no tanto, por habernos atiborrado en el buffet de antes, era una buena táctica para compartir con alguien más y ajustarnos al presupuesto, incluyéndo las bebidas.
Estuvimos un rato comprendiendo la amplia gama de opciones en el menú, que estaba convenientemente impreso sobre cada mesa, pero luego de asegurarnos preguntando al camarero sobre la promo del día, concluímos que pedir las doble raciones nos interesaba mucho más a todos. Sin embargo, el nombre del lugar hace referencia a los cientos de versiones que disponen de los mini emparedados ofrecidos llamados montaditos, pero tras la comilona previa, no había muchos animos de comer mucho pan.
When it came time to order, we each went to the counter separately to place our orders; after all, this restaurant chain operates like a typical fast-food joint, where you have to go to the counter to order and then pick up your order at the counter when it’s ready. To do this, they give you one of those pagers that beeps and flashes when your food is ready.
The average wait from the time we ordered until the food was ready was about 15 minutes—not bad for a place that was absolutely packed. But we enjoyed our first drinks while we waited, since they serve them right at the counter when you order your food.
In my case, I shared some dishes with 
We’re not going to get too picky about the food review—I used to go to 100 Montaditos all the time back in my university days, and it is what it is: a laid-back spot to hang out with friends, grab some snacks, and have a cheap drink. Still, I don’t dislike it—the ham was pretty decent, and while the croquettes didn’t stand out for their depth of flavor, they were crispy on the outside, which was exactly what I was in the mood for at the time. For how cheap the place is, the quality of these dishes is more than fine.
As for drinks, again, since they offer cheap beer mugs, they’re not going to serve anything craft or premium. The most popular options are the Cruz Campo beer mug or the sangria mug, and while they’re very cheap, for just 50 cents more you can order an Águila beer mug, which I like much more than the first option—that was my choice that night. What you have to give them credit for is that all the taps are nice and cold and the pitchers are pre-chilled; the first sip of beer felt incredibly refreshing, and the beer stayed at a good temperature much longer than I expected.
Al momento de ordenar la comida fuimos cada uno por separado a la caja para pedir, a fin de cuentas esta cadena de restaurantes funciona como el típico lugar de comida rápidas, en donde debes ir a ordenar a la caja y también recoger tu pedido en el mostrador cuando esté listo. Para ello te dan un busca de esos que suena y da luces al momento de avisarte que tu comida ya está lista.
El tiempo medio desde que ardenamos hasta que el pedido estuvo listo, fue de unos 15 minutos aproximadamente, nada mal para un local que estaba sumamente lleno. Pero las primeras bebidas las fuimos disfrutando mientras esperábamos, pues las sirven directamente en el mostrador cuando pides la comida.

No nos vamos a poner muy escrupulosos en cuanto a la reseña gastronómica, he estado muchas veces en los 100 montaditos en mi época de estudiante y es lo que es, un lugar desenfadado al que ir a juntarse con amigos con algo de picar y beber barato. Aún así, no me desagrada, el jamón estaba bastante decente y aunque las croquetas no destacaban por su profundidad de sabor, estaban crujiente spor fuera, que era lo que me apetecía en el momento. Para lo barato que está el sitio, la calidad de estás raciones está más que bien.
En cuanto a las bebidas, nuevamente, para tener acceso a jarras de cerveza barata, no van a servir nada artesanal o premiun. Las opciones mas populares son la jarra de cerveza Cruz Campo o la de Sangría y aunque son muy baratas, por solo 50 céntimos más se puede pedir una jarra de cerveza Águila, que me gusta mucho más que la primera opción, esta última fue mi eleeción esa noche. Lo que hay que reconocerles es que tienen todos los grifos bien frios y las jarras heladas previamente, el primer sorbo de cerveza se sintió muy sumamente refrescante y la cerveza se mantuvo a buena temperatura mucho más tiempo del que yo me esperaba.
We ate and drank to our hearts’ content for a couple of hours, chatting about a little bit of everything on this first day of our gathering and feeling encouraged by how promising the coming days looked. Although what was evident in most of us was the typical fatigue from the previous hours of travel—not everyone, though, since some had been proactive and decided to arrive at the destination a few days early—but many others, including myself, needed to recover from the long hours of travel to get to Alicante.
After a couple of hours, we decided to call it a night; we had to get a good night’s rest since the next day would be when the main part of the program would take place. A clock atop a building read 10:01 p.m. and signaled a pleasant night with a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, inviting us to stroll carefree through the streets, which were filled with people just beginning their night of partying.

It was decided to issue a refund to each user afterward, because it was an easier way to keep track of individual expenses and ensure that no additional items were overlooked. After all, we were a large group, and any method that helps minimize errors is always welcome.
Below is a screenshot of the reimbursement, received a few days after the event ended, following verification of receipts, expenses, and attendance. 11.78 BHD, which is equivalent to 10€.
Comimos y bebimos a gusto durante un par de horas, comentando un poco de todo en este primer día de encuentro y animados por lo prometedor que se mostraban los proximos días. Aunque lo que se evidenciaba en la mayoría de todos, era el cansancio típico de las previas horas de viaje, no de todos, pues algunos habían sido previsivos y habían decidido llegar unos días antes al destino, pero muchos otro, incluyéndome, necesitabamos recuperarnos de muchas horas viajando para llegar a Alicante.
Luego de un par de horas decidimos dar la noche por terminada, teníamos que descansar bien pues el día seguiente sería aquel en el que el contenido grueso del programa tendría lugar. Un reloj en lo alto de un edificio marcaba las 22:01 horas y nos avisaba de una noche agradable con 21 grados celsius, invitándonos a caminar despreocupadamente por las calles, llenas de gente que apenas estaba dando inicio a su jornada de juerga nocturna.

Se decidió hacer un reembolso posterior a cada usuario, porque era una forma mas fácil de llevar cuenta de los gastos individuales y de no dejar pasar por alto algún item adicional, al final eramos un grupo grande y cualquier manera que ayude a minimizar errores siempre será bienvenida.
Abajo adjunto la captura de pantalla del reembolso, recibido dias después de haber finalizado el evento, tras comprobar los recibos, consumos y participación. 11,78 hbd que corresponden al valor de 10€.

Pienso llevarla conmigo todo el tiempo. Me ha parecido un detalle tan bonito, con todos los colores, el corazoncito azul del color del equipo y la carita feliz que me hace sonreir cada vez que la miro en mi muñeca; además es un recordatorio de la gran importancia que tenemos los usuarios dentro del ecosistema de Hive, del apoyo y cariño que logramos transmitirnos con a penas vernos o conocernos.
