China has always been at the forefront of innovations to help fight air pollution. They also have been the country to bear the brunt of air pollution fueled by its massive economy.

And now an ambitious project has been started in Liuzhou in the Guangxi Province, which aims to dramatically enhance the quality of air around human habitats by building the first Forest City in the world!
The futuristic city is slated to have around a million plants and more than 40,000 trees and has been designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti, who is well known for his 'vertical forest' residential building in Milan.
The proposed city is projected to be occupied by around 30,000 people and will be connected to Liuzhou with a fast rail line used by electric cars. The city shall have residential, commercial and recreational areas and is slated to be completed by the year 2020.

And the most promising thing in the whole enterprise is the source of energy needed to power the city. The city will use geo-thermal and solar energy to power everything.
With such an approach, it is expected that the air quality will be optimal and the architects have described the effect as :
The diffusion of plants, not only in the parks and gardens or along the streets, but also over building facades, will allow the energy self-sufficient city to contribute to improve the air quality (absorbing both CO2 and fine dust of 57 tons per year), to decrease the average air temperature, to create noise barriers and to improve the biodiversity of living species, generating the habitat for birds, insects and small animals that inhabit the Liuzhou territory.
