Sol-2-Soul My Brothers & sisters. And Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms, and all who do Mom-work. A lot of folks step up to carry that burden when Mom is not around, or needs a break.
The moon enters the sign of Pisces this evening and that means another 3 to 7 days of no caffeine & sugar & haf-n-half. We will probably do a few days without meat as well, but it won’t be today.
It’s been since March 16th that we did a cold turkey quit on sugar and tea. It was a reset. We returned to one cuppa tea daily, with a half tablespoon of sugar, as opposed to four cups of tea daily, with a full, heaping tablespoon of sugar in each cup. We didn’t quit. We managed. Thus reducing our sugar consumption by 90%. We will be discussing this at least until the end of the year, especially when the moon enters Pisces. It reminds us to stay diligent. Plus we want to gauge if we have any of those withdrawal headaches during our week of abstinence.
I don’t know if anyone has noticed or not, but the gloomer-doomer fearporn rhetoric of today is a funhouse mirror image of what it was during the previous US regime. Threats of arrests. Accusations of Treason. Anticipation of perp-walks. The Epstein Files. UFO disclosure. An unwinnable war. Infiltration and bought and paid for politicians. Impending shortages. Surging gas prices. Famine on the horizon, and did I hear that somewhere was hit with a Directed Energy Weapon? Guess they ran out of blue paint. Cerulean blue.
It feels like my simulation is stuck on repeat. It’s like a Led Zeppelin tribute band. They switch out the musicians, but they play the same songs. But the lyrics don’t become any clearer.
We’ve been monitoring the scene long enough that we can watch the fifth generation of TV news presenters saying basically the same shit as they have always said. Yawn. The only difference is, everybody is in on the act.
It’s like anybody can be a DJ now. You don’t have to buy records, you don’t have to cue records and you don’t have to carry records to your festival gigs. Just tweak the dials, push the buttons and pump your fist in the air and the herd will follow your leader. Not to say there are not some skilled cats out there. You just won’t see duct tape on vinyl anymore.
For kids today, record shopping would be like going to a car show and looking at classic cars. Two of my favorites are the 1957 Chevy Nomad, and the 1964 Ford Mustang. They are fantasy hot-rods but the originals are very uncomfortable. The Mustang seats come up to just above the middle of your back. Anyone born in this century would probably feel very exposed in those seats. And what’s that hump down there on the floor?
The Chevy Nomad is a station wagon. Basically a small delivery truck, with bench seats, (what are bench seats?) And it’s heavy. Anyone from the last century whose Dad owned a station wagon, Country Squire 10 passenger, by Ford comes to mind, will remember that feeling of turning corners at moderate speeds. You feel like you’re going to slide right out the window.
The restored and customized vehicles, of course, look much better than the original stock products, and belie what these beasts were all about in their day. These vehicles reflected the essence of America back then. Indeed, between the 57 Chevy and the 64 Mustang, those seven years, reflect a significant change in the American consumer psyche.
Anyway, just a lil sumthin’ to fill the void this Sunday, Soul day.
Stay strong, stay safe, stay sane, stay savvy, stay serene, stay sovereign, stay subscribed.
PEACE.
Shattered Images
Most of the “students” I encountered in Spain, were upper-middle-class Spaniards who were well educated and indoctrinated into the Spanish system. (As I understand it, from what I’ve been told.) You are formally educated until age 25, upon graduation, you “get a position.” Remain in that position for 40 years, and retire at age 65. That seemed to be the standard. I met several soldiers, and veterans in Spain. One guy had already been in the Spanish Army for twenty years. I figured he was ready to retire. Of course I based this on the US model. Nope. Same system. Retirement comes after 40 years of service. This model might be Europe-wide. I don’t know. But it seems like 40 years is the standard work life. Indeed, if I were to add up all of my gigs, part time and full time, since age 16, where the G “deducted” and invested my wages for my “Golden Years,” I might have 40 all together. (Military time included.) So maybe it’s a global standard.
But back to the main highway. These educated Europeans, are at the same time, very savvy, humble and measured in their conversations with Americans. They are very aware of self-styled, “American Exceptionalism.” And don’t want to cause any friction during their 7 day English immersion “holiday.” Often their jobs, or companies are paying for this rather expensive course. There’s no time to shatter the self-image, or American egos. There are also native English speakers from Canada the UK, Australia, the Philippines and India at these retreats.
The first year I volunteered for these programs was 2017. Guess who was in the White House that year. Right! Same guy as now.
My brief sojourn outside of ConUs, (2017-2020), was very enlightening. I was often asked where I was from. I’d say U S quickly, hoping it would go by them fast enough that it wouldn’t hold any lasting negative vibrations in their minds. There’s no shame in the traveler game, but explaining the behavior of your country, is a heavy burden.
“I just live there. Yes, America’s behavior is appalling, but I’m cool. Honest.”
I had a conversation with a lady in Malaysia during a ride share. She wanted to know my thoughts on Trump. “I’m indifferent,” I remember saying. Then I think I laid out the pulse of the country and maybe why I thought he won.
Like most everyone else, except maybe Alex Jones and company, I thought Hillary was a done-deal. Not because I was, “With her.” But because it was in the “16 year plan.” Democrats, the party and most of their donor-class, love at least two things more than America. Hollywood & making history. They love attention and their celebrated status. You can hear it in their language, “Democratic Super Star.” “Rising star.” “Celebrated politician.” And, “the first” this or that. Hillary, aka “Madame President,” was to be the first female president of the United States, plus, continuing the Clinton Dynasty.
That didn’t happen. It was a devastating blow to the Hollywood elite. (Now know as the “Epstein Class.)
This celebrity obsession of the Dems, isn’t to let Republicans off the hook. They are more interested in the, “next White Man to become president,” than the first white woman. Or anyone who can’t trace their lineage back to King John of England. Among the things Republicans love more than America, are money, guns and Jesus. Jesus is a distant third. Nonetheless, they manage to meld this quartet together, thus making Money, Weapons and Jesus synonymous with their America.
I didn’t get this deep with my car share companion. But her question did make me think even more deeply about the mental fabric of the US. It’s self image. Our, (the herd’s) self-image, and especially how, “through the lens of accurate chronicling,” how undeserved it actually is.
Pride is not a bad emotion. It’s a base emotion. Neutral. It makes a daddy feel proud when his daughter rides her bike for the first time. When his son’s basketball team wins that championship. There’s that kind of pride. There’s pride that’s mixed with humility. And then there’s that hubristic, “we’re gonna kick yer ass” pride, that the majority of Americans under the Colonial Supremacy system express, often without the slightest bit of self-awareness.
“Take over.” “Invade.” “Conquer.” “We’re gonna fuck you up!”
This is everyday language in America, and it reflects a collective self-image, and a distorted history that is coming unraveled, and has been since the latter years of the last century.
Even today’s “alternative” journalists, in America, use this language. They might soften the tone, even change the words, but the supremacy attitude leaks out. Indeed, it doesn’t leak out. I gushes out. They will insinuate their superiority by the way they phrase a sentence. The way they establish their supposed superiority to their readers in the first paragraph.
This is going to change. It’s beginning to change now. American propaganda consumers want certainty, in an uncertain world. If they cannot have certainty, they will accept delusions and fantasies. As long as they are delivered with a bright smile, straight teeth, artfully threaded eyebrows and designer fashions, between tranquilizer ads.
Historians with Youtube channels have been deconstructing the “untold” stories, of America’s involvement, often more heinous than heroic, in wars, police actions, and “misunderstandings,” throughout the country’s existence. It’s ugly, disturbing, and ultimately, liberating.
Iran changed everything.
America will “commemorate” and some will “celebrate” the 250th Anniversary of declaring its independence from England in a couple of months. This will be done in the shadow of what looks like a huge loss against Iran. Some Americans have already blamed The UK, and Israel for making this country a puppet of their respective aspirations of conquest and genocide. Maybe so. Maybe American leadership, with the same mentality, bigotry and greed, were willing accomplices. Even if America was duped, it doesn’t absolve the country of its sins against humanity. The body count keeps rising. And the bombs say, “made in America.”
The generational dividing line between the “ooo-rah” chicken-hawk Boomers, and the sober Millennial veterans who have never been on the winning side of an American war, from our perspective, is Generation X. Gen-X are mostly post-Vietnam Cold War veterans. Lifers experienced covert actions around the planet, maybe served in Afghanistan, The Gulf region, or Iraq, if they did 20+ years. The smart ones did their time and hightailed it outta the chaos, and PTSD.
Twenty-something Zoomers, overweight, underfit & clueless, will never have to put their boots on foreign soil, dodge live rounds, including friendly fire, burn villages, or right shoulder arms. There entire lives have been witness to America's incompetence at waging war. Plus, China has cut off the gadgets the US Military Industrial Complex needs to make weapons. Iran has destroyed US bases and radar systems in the Persian Gulf region. Plus, it’s demonstrated its ability to attack US ships in their waters and attack Israel with deadly accuracy.
As Gen-Z ages, (I doubt they will ever mature), into a demographic of “representatives,” (politicians), I doubt they will have the taste, or zeal for war. Peacenik Boomers will relish their twilight years of relative peace, while the war mongers will grumble about “How we cudda wumped Iran, if Trump wasn’t sucha chicken-shit wuss.” Gen-X will just chill, as usual.
What’s great about a shattered image, is what can be built-back-better with truth, humility, and imagination. (This is my, “hands-across-the-Americas closer.) When humans in this hemisphere can step up and out of the White Colonialist Supremacy system, its exploitative policies and behaviors, we can all, actually have nice things.
