Education has been recognize as a core tool for the development and growth of any nation and it is worthy of note that no matter how good the curriculum of any educational institution is, if it is not being implemted and put to life by the teacher, then the curriculum remains domant.
Again, for these curriculum to be properly implemented those that are to implement it which are the teacher must be well motivated, meaning their welfare should be looked into. Teachers walfare is one aspect that has been overlooked to some extent especially in countries like Nigeria and this to a greater extent has affected the rate at which teachers deliver, especially in areas like mathematic.
Teachers’ welfare refers to the provision of adequate physical, psychological, social, professional, and economic support systems that enhance teachers’ wellbeing, job satisfaction, effectiveness, and overall performance in the educational system. The definition of teachers welfare as stated above goes beyond salary and other financial incentives. It talks about psychological , social support.
Therefore for teachers to deliver well on their duty , their welfare must be recognized and well taken care of and this in turn will have a positive effects on the academic achievement of students , especially in mathematics.
This is one aspect that has been overlooked in our education system and it is affecting the system. When this is attended to, we will notice a kind of improvement in the system.
