Maybe not many people like canned fish like this, but my husband is an exception. He loves fish so much that even canned sardines taste delicious to him. In fact, every time I serve him this dish, he’s very happy and really enjoys it. Today I took the initiative to turn this canned fish into a soup-based dish. He really loves soupy dishes—soup and curry are his favorites. Without much thought, I tried making sardine soup with quail eggs.
This dish is a fairly simple sardine recipe that relies on the original sauce from the canned fish, with just a few additional seasonings. The process is also quite quick; it only takes a short time to prepare. This is the advantage of canned fish—the preparation process is very fast, so many people here stock up on it if they like it. Since my husband loves canned fish, my older sister gave us a few cans of it yesterday.
Curious about the preparation steps? Let’s take a look at the step-by-step process.
Ingredients
1 can of sardines
10 quail eggs
1 green chili pepper
5 red chili peppers
1 stalk of green onion
1 clove of shallot
1 clove of garlic
Salt to taste
Instructions
I chop the onions, tomatoes, and chili peppers to my liking,
Sauté the garlic and shallot in a little oil.
Add about 500 ml of water, then add the scallions, chili peppers, and green tomatoes, and cook until everything is wilted.
Add the sardines and seasonings. For the quail eggs, I boiled and fried them, then added them directly to the broth.
Cook and season with salt until everything is evenly cooked and perfectly seasoned—don’t forget to adjust the flavor. If you like it spicy, feel free to add a little chili.
Result
Ta-da! The sardine and quail egg dish is ready to serve—it’s truly tempting. Serve it with warm rice; my husband loves it. Look how flavorful it is! I intentionally made it a bit soupy this time because my husband wanted it to be like a soup. Yeah, we’ve made that happen with this dish. I hope he’ll love it and be happy with the result when he eats it.
Well, for those of you who haven’t tried cooking sardines yet, give this method a try—I’m sure you’ll love this dish. It can be enjoyed with bread or any other type of carbohydrate. Enjoy!
