For charity work or help rendered to be of use, it is better to know the person's problem and see how best to help them. I am not against the opinion of helping someone get a skill, I am of the opinion that before you give a skill or help someone get a skill, check if that skill at that moment in that person's life is the best option.
A friend once told me that she met someone who promised to help her by paying for a skill, and would want to know which skill among (hairdressing, and tailoring) is more lucrative and I gave her a candid advice while skill is good, at this stage of your life, it is not the best because you feed yourself, pay for a roof over your head and may likely start looking for money that will aid you to and fro your place learning.
While you are going to be paying to learn a skill for six months or maybe a year or a year plus how do you feed, how do you pay your rent, where will you get money from to take care of your daily needs or yourself as a lady? Luckily, she understood what I was saying and was able to convince the person to start up a small business for her with the money she was supposed to use for learning the skill, even though the person didn't trust he at first, but she currently is doing well for herself and her business has grown big and the last time we spoke, she is learning a skill something she wanted to do not something she had to choose because that was the only options given to her.
For someone who doesn't have someone who feeds them, for someone who pays the rent and every other bill, for someone who has to take care of themselves, for someone who has no one to run to when they are in need, giving a skill is the least best option. While giving a skill to someone isn't a bad idea, what about helping to start up a small business for the person?
I know most people are afraid of giving money as a means of charity, they prefer to give skills but most times what a person needs at the moment may not be the skills but the money to help them start up a business to aid them in bettering themselves, just maybe if the person is interested, they could see themselves through any skills they wish for themselves.
It takes months or a year or maybe a year and some months now to learn skills, and then, you start looking for a trusted client to be able to put good use of your skills and during those times you have to keep selling yourself as the best at least it's a good thing but someone who has a lot of bills could break down one day while hoping for when he or she would be able to put good use of their skills to earn a living for themselves.
I was lucky enough to learn a skill at a very young age, and I was able to finish learning because back then I had nothing to worry about, I wasn't paying the bills but if it were now, I am not sure I would agree to learning skills because I currently need a. Job more than a skill.
