Good morning lovely people of Hive!
It is a real beautiful one here in my corner of the world. June is one of my favorite months here in New Jersey. It gets nice and warm during the day with little humidity and at night the temps usually drop, so we can open the windows to vent and cool down the house. Next week though we're expecting an early summer heatwave with temperatures expected to be 36°C/96°F. That's pretty hot!
Of course, not as hot as in other places, like Australia where our host of GalenKP's Weekend Engagement resides. I seem to have found a little bit of writing mojo these days so I thought I would join the opportunity today.
As always, Galen's topics are quite diverse and I will be picking the most boring ones. Have a guess which one(s) I'll pick or better yet - join the party yourself:
- Have you ever wanted to be the opposite gender for a period of time and if so why? How do you feel it would differ from your existing gender, what would you do and how would it alter your perspective when you changed back? Remember to use your own photos.
- Could you survive alone in the wilderness, or would you struggle (or perish), or need help? Explain. Remember to use your own photos.
- What podcast are you listening to right now? Explain it and why you like it. Remember to use your own photos.
- Why do you think people become so passionate about watching sports? Explain your reasoning. Remember to use your own photos.
- Would you leave Earth to colonise Mars with no chance of ever coming back? If so explain why with examples. Remember to use your own photos. (No, I don't expect you to have photos of Mars folks)
My short answers are:
- No
- No or not long (survive) and yes (help)
- Hmm...
- I don't f***in care about sports teams
- Probably, if my partner were to come or I didn't have a partner
So, let's talk about podcasts. These days I do not listen to many at all. Why? Advertisements. They turned me off of podcasts for good a few years ago. I would listen in to one or two art or art business related ones while I was doing art myself. But then I stopped and rather switched to audio books.
Then in 2023, or was it the end of 2022?, this podcast came along
Hard Fork (YouTube)
I am linking their new Youtube channel but you can find the Hard Fork podcast anywhere you get your podcasts from. I am subscribed to the NYT and read about it. One of their tech journalists together with another techie were going to launch this podcast which revolves entirely around tech, mostly very new tech incl. AI.
They are journalists doing in depth research and they are covering all the tech related stories and news of the week. They represent their findings in a funny (to me) and very entertaining and also personal way. They will give you their opinion about the topic they're reporting on but it is clearly an opinion.
There's also a section where they will present listener's feedback on certain topics or ask for their input, even interview and bring them on the show. They regularly have interviews with tech celebrities, had high up peeps from Google, OpenAI and many more on the show. In one of their latest shows they even had Justin Trudeau the Canadian prime minister on the show talking about... AI.
And btw it is no secret that I have strong reservations about AI but I also want to know more and keep somewhat up-to-date on developments. I think that is important no matter if you are pro or against something.
A new episode of Hard Fork gets published every Friday just in time for the weekend. It's usually around an hour and I listen to it while on my morning walk-a-jog around town. Yesterday, I had other things to listen to, a long message from a friend and the daily news from NYT and this morning I skipped going outside for baking bread. But I'll likely go later, maybe tonight when it cools off a little and then I will definitely be listening to Hard Fork.
What are you listening to when you are working out? Podcasts? Music?
Thanks for reading & have a great weekend!
Cheers,
