How's everyone doing?
The big day is nearly here, and I don't know about you, but I've still got a lot of things on my "to do" list. I mean, I've gotten most of the major things done, but it always seems like around the holidays I have about 50 extra ideas floating around in my mind that I'd like to do, but just can't find the time. At this point, it's basically just fun little extras anyway, like making a ridiculous amount of goodies. Oh, and all that wrapping. 🎁 I'm promising myself that's not how I'm spending Christmas Eve night this year... guess I'd better get a head start tonight, or that's exactly what's going to happen!
One of the big things I'd promised myself I'd get done, which I can gladly say I have accomplished, was painting cards for our parents. (You can take a look here at the one I sent to my dad, and here is the one I made for the in-laws.) I saved the best for last, you guys. This is the beauty I sent to my mama.
It ticks all the boxes, it's soft and pretty, has loads of little details, and of course, like anything my mom would appreciate, it has sparkles. But the best part is yet to come... let's have a look at the process, and then I'll reveal my awesome little secret.
As usual, I started out with a sketch. This sketch took me a while, as I mulled over all the decorations I wanted to add to the ornaments, as well as the types of ornaments themselves.
Then I painted in the base colors for each one.
And worked in some of those details.
Then I washed the background, and added a few details to it as I went.
Once the whole thing had a chance to dry overnight, I used a small paintbrush to place the glue, and sprinkled on the holiday cheer glitter.
Now, here's where we get to the good part... My mom is a sparkle freak. She loves anything shiny/sparkly/glittered/gilded. The card she sent me this year is nearly entirely coated with glitter! And here's the thing, I love all that stuff just as much as her, EXCEPT when it sheds... because, boy, when glitter isn't adhered perfectly, you'll be finding that stuff everywhere. It's maddening. (My husband says it's like herpes - spreads like wildfire, and impossible to get rid of. 😅) And the card she sent me, while very lovely, is one of these such items. I look at it funny and it practically throws glitter in my eye. SOOOOO..... I had to one-up her. This year, I sent my mom a glitter bomb. 😂
Yes, that is a mound of glitter, which I enclosed in her card. It's the really fine stuff too. HAHA! She's going to be so mad. But hopefully she'll laugh too. I'm fairly certain she'll see the humor in it... eventually. 😁I'm awaiting the phone call today, cursing me for it.
Have you ever been glitter bombed/sent one to someone?
Are you all caught up and ready for the holidays, or do you have a bunch of last-minute things to cram in?
It's going to be a busy (but hopefully fun) weekend around here!
