Trust is largely an emotional act, based on an anticipation of reliance. It is fragile, and like an eggshell, one slip can shatter it.

Trust takes time to be earned but could be destroyed in split seconds. Be careful about how you conduct yourself.
I remember what happened yesterday when I was waiting for a minibus to convey me to my destination; a police van stopped and offered me a lift, which I outrightly rejected.
I did that because I don't trust the Nigerian Police Force. They are being paid with our taxpayer's money so they would secure lives and properties, but the reverse has regularly been the case. I've heard and witnessed so many awful things that these police officers do. In my own case, they might have a good intention to just help a citizen, but they have already lost the trust of the common on the streets of this country.
I also have this friend who is a habitual liar. It could be that he says the truth sometimes. However, since I have known him for lying, I don't value his words anymore.
If you have ever seen couples who had issues of infidelity in the past, then you'll understand my point better. Suspicion and distrust sets in. Even when a partner doesn't mean harm, the other reads negative meaning into what he or she does...
This is why you have to be careful not to lose someone's trust. be careful with the way you conduct yourself.
Everything you do or say to anyone will be registered in that person's heart. Even when it no longer appears in the person's conscious mind, it is forever active in the subconscious mind. A repeat of similar circumstances from the same person will make the subconscious mind create a mental description what to expect from that person. And when relating to you, the person will be consciously or subconsciously evaluating all you do with that description he or she already has in the mind.
We are all humans, we all have flaws and shortcomings, but be careful not to repeatedly betray someone's trust for you. If it ever gets to the point where someone absolutely distrusts you, I doubt if that trust can ever be regained again.
