The time of our life runs so fast that we feel as if we are in a rapid flight. It is wonderful that there is an opportunity to save our emotions and feelings in the photo! And I'm going back to the beginning of my #TheLongestTrip to tell you about all the beautiful places I visited in a row. Earlier, I already talked about several exciting places I visited in the first country I arrived in, Hungary. So, we continue to make new discoveries in the beautiful capital of Budapest.

One day, we were riding in a taxi and passed by a mysterious mountain, where a statue could be seen high up, and a cross could be seen on the top.
The mountain was rocky and steep, and there were gates in the rock. This place was full of secrets and we decided to definitely visit it!
We googled it and went to explore Mount Geler, which turned out to be a famous historical site indeed!
Mount Gellert in Budapest is located on the western bank of the Danube, between the Erzsebet Bridge and the Freedom Bridge. You can climb the hill itself on foot.
First, we took a tram across the Freedom Bridge, admiring this beautiful structure and the views of the Danube. The tops of the bridge's four masts are decorated with statues of Turuls, birds from Hungarian mythology.

Later, my daughters convinced me that we'd be better and faster on scooters, so I decided to go on this adventure... considering I've never ridden a scooter before :)

Mountain Gellért-hegy is one of the most famous tourist spots in Budapest. It is more correct to call it a hill, since the height is only 235 m, but, nevertheless, it is also one of the highest points of the capital of Hungary. There are several very interesting and significant attractions here. In addition, there is a wonderful view from the top.

Since ancient times, this place has been an important wine-growing area of Buda. Previously, in the Middle Ages, the mountain was called Kelen Hill. It received its modern name in the 15th century, in honor of Gellért Sagredo. He was a Catholic missionary who introduced Christianity to Hungary in the 11th century.
Mount Gellert is worth a visit not only for the panoramic view of the city, but also for the large concentration of interesting objects here. Statue of St. Gelert, Citadel, Statue of Liberty, Philosophical Garden, monument "King of Buda and Queen of Pest", cave church...

The cave church is located in a natural cave under the mountain. When we passed by on scooters, we saw her, but we did not have time to examine it in detail.

Having driven several hundred meters on scooters along the Danube embankment, along the mountain, we arrived at the ascent to the mountain. At the height we saw a majestic bronze statue!

It was really exciting - climbing the steep alleys of the park on scooters! Every now and then we stopped to take pictures of the wonderful views of the city of Budapest on both sides of the Danube River, with its beautiful old churches and houses.

Finally we reached the place where the statue was. The Saint Gellert Monument is located in the northeastern part of Mount Gellert. It was built in 1904 according to the design of local architect Gyula Jankovits. The bronze statue of St. Gellert with a crucifix in his hand rises above the hill and is visible from almost anywhere in Budapest. Behind the monument there is a semicircular colonnade.

This place has a very special majestic atmosphere. St. Gelert seems to cover the city with his protection. A great blessing is present here. The semicircular colonnade creates a sense of antiquity.

We rode a little more on scooters in the park, where there was a beautiful old red brick building with a unique carved roof...

Statue of St. Gellert. Monk and Catholic missionary, after whom the hill is named. He was invited by King Stephen I of Hungary and preached Christianity throughout the country. After the death of the monarch, persecution of Christians began. On September 24, 1046, the preacher was placed in a barrel filled with nails and thrown down the mountain to the Danube, where he was finished off with stones. At the end of the 11th century he was canonized. The monument was erected at the site of the Saint's death in 1904. Gellert is captured holding a crucifix.

When evening began to fall, we returned to the observation deck near the St. Gellert monument to take a photo of Budapest at night. The city lit up by lights looked magical. And in the presence of a majestic statue with a crucifix in his hands, I thought about eternal values...
