Mirror, Mirror. Common Tern 7Dmk2 icm 400mm 5.6
Very close to home (5 min. walk) we have a reservoir. I think 5 years ago they have build small islands on that reservoir for nature purposes only. The result is stunning. Each year over 1000 birds come over from Africa to those small islands for the breeding season. It actually is the biggest colony from Belgium.
The location is a very difficult spot for photography but...
The key ingredients i was after. No wind (for the mirror effect), Excellent light by sunset, and a very coöperating bird that would drink in fly by. (they drink while flying low over water)
Of course close enought so i could see good detail on that elegant flyer.
To be honest it took me like years and over 5000 's of shots that were far from good. I had some i was happy with but not what i had in mind.
One evening it all came together.
Common Tern having a drink
They sometimes fly by and make a splashing of water with their beak. This results in superb action photography.
I still feel i can do better with the drinking image and action image. I will try again for sure. But that will be coming summer :)
