I hope you’re all doing well; thank goodness, I’m fine. Today I want to tell you about an anime which, to be honest, I started watching without much expectation, but which ended up hooking me more than I thought it would. Let’s talk about Invasion of the Heights.
At first glance, it looks like your typical gory action anime, but as the story unfolds, you realise there’s more to it: mystery, drama and quite intense situations that gradually draw you in.

Summary
The story introduces us to Yuri, a girl who suddenly finds herself in a completely strange world, full of interconnected buildings. From the very start, everything is chaos; there’s no clear explanation, and simply surviving is already a challenge. In this world, there are masked figures who attack people, and this is where the real problem begins: you don’t know who to trust, you don’t know what’s going on, and you certainly don’t know how to get out of there.
One of the main objectives is that Yuri wants to find her brother, Rika, who is also trapped in that world. As the story progresses, Yuri goes from being a rather naive girl to someone who gradually adapts, gains allies and resources, learns to defend herself, and grows as a character with a clear goal: to survive, find her brother, and understand that world.
The thing is, that world has its own rules. It’s no longer simply about people being trapped. Here, it seems there are roles: some are like pawns, others carry more weight within the ‘game’, and others are simply destined to die. Everything points to there being some sort of selection process or purpose behind all of this. Furthermore, although there is no magic as such, there are special abilities, but the interesting thing is that they come at a cost. Every power has a consequence, and that lends considerable weight to the decisions the characters make.
Final thoughts
Right then, let’s get to the good bits. The action scenes are quite well done. Although many fights involve conventional weapons, there are moments when the characters unleash abilities that take things to the next level and make the confrontations feel intense. And importantly, no one here is completely safe. The gore factor is present and palpable. There are some pretty intense scenes, and that adds that touch of constant tension. And as far as I understand, the manga is even heavier. The soundtrack doesn’t disappoint either. And there’s a little detail I really liked: the opening theme is the same throughout the anime, but if you pay attention, you’ll notice small changes as the story progresses. It’s a subtle touch for those who notice it.
Now, talking about the characters. Mayuko is a tremendous character; right from the start, you can see her determination to survive in that world. Although deep down she wants to get out, there are moments where she seems to feel comfortable there, as if she’s already accepted that reality. Her development is quite good, especially emotionally, and her evolution right through to the end is handled well. And well, she’s certainly got character and guts to spare, no doubt about it.
And the other one I can’t leave out is the ‘sniper’, because honestly I can’t remember if they actually call him that 😅. This character is brilliant; he goes from being just another NPC to having a pretty interesting subplot, especially with Rika. He’s complex, he’s got presence, and honestly he was one of the ones who caught my attention the most. It’s a shame they didn’t give him more development in the anime.
Now, not everything is perfect. Something that personally strikes me in this sort of anime is how quickly the characters trust each other. I mean, you’re in a world where anyone could kill you or do something crazy to you, and you just go and trust them that easily? The case of Yuri and Mayuko is crystal clear. They meet and there’s practically blind trust straight away, and well, that doesn’t just happen once, it happens several times 😅. You let it slide, but it’s still a bit of a ‘wait a minute’.
And the other thing, the ending. Honestly, I HATE open endings. And this anime has a pretty open one. Yes, the manga is complete, but the anime leaves you hanging. And although the story itself doesn’t change much, seeing that animated conclusion is always a different experience, and the fact that there’s no sign of another season really hits home. Even so, this anime leaves some interesting points to analyse. How circumstances can make you change completely, moral decisions, the value of life, even the issue of suicide… there’s plenty to get to grips with there.
I might even post something later just talking about that. Despite its flaws, it’s an anime I really enjoyed and which kept me hooked, so I’m giving it a 9/10.

Espero que se encuentren muy bien, yo bien gracias a Dios. Hoy les quiero hablar de un anime que, siendo honesto, lo empecé sin tanta expectativas, pero terminó enganchándome más de lo que pensaba, vamos a comentar sobre Invasión en las Alturas.
A simple vista parece el típico anime de acción con gore y ya, pero mientras avanza la historia te das cuenta de que tiene más fondo: misterio, drama y situaciones bastante densas que poco a poco te van atrapando.

Resumen
La historia nos presenta a Yuri, una chica que de la nada aparece en un mundo completamente extraño, lleno de edificios conectados entre sí. Desde el primer momento todo es caos, no hay explicación clara, y básicamente sobrevivir ya es un reto. En este mundo existen unas figuras enmascaradas que se encargan de atacar a las personas, y aquí es donde empieza el verdadero problema, no sabes en quién confiar, no sabes qué está pasando, y mucho menos cómo salir de ahí.
Uno de los motores principales objetivos es que Yuri quiere encontrar a su hermano, Rika, quien también está atrapado en ese mundo. A medida que avanza la historia, Yuri pasa de ser una chica bastante ingenua a alguien que poco a poco se adapta, consigue aliados, recursos, aprende a defenderse y va creciendo como personaje con un objetivo claro, sobrevivir, encontrar a su hermano y entender ese mundo.
Y es que ese mundo tiene sus propias reglas. No es simplemente gente atrapada ya. Aquí parece que hay roles, algunos son como peones, otros tienen más peso dentro del “juego”, y otros simplemente están destinados a morir. Incluso todo apunta a que hay una especie de selección o propósito detrás de todo esto. Además, aunque no hay magia como tal, sí hay habilidades especiales, pero lo interesante es que no son gratuitas. Todo poder tiene una consecuencia, y eso le da bastante peso a las decisiones que toman los personajes.
Comentarios finales
Ahora sí, vamos a lo bueno. Las escenas de acción están bastante bien logradas. Aunque muchas peleas son con armas convencionales, hay momentos donde los personajes sacan habilidades que elevan todo y hacen que los enfrentamientos se sientan intensos. Y algo importante, aquí nadie está completamente a salvo. El factor gore está presente y se siente. Hay escenas bastante fuertes y eso le suma ese toque de tensión constante. Y según tengo entendido, en el manga es incluso más heavy.El soundtrack tampoco decepciona. Y hay un detallito que me gustó bastante, el opening es el mismo durante todo el anime, pero si estás atento, vas notando pequeños cambios a medida que avanza la historia. Es un toque fino para el que le presta atención.
Ahora, hablando de los personajes. Mayuko es un tremendo personaje, desde el inicio se le ve esa determinación para sobrevivir en ese mundo. Aunque en el fondo quiere salir, hay momentos donde pareciera que se siente cómoda ahí, como si ya hubiese aceptado esa realidad. Su desarrollo es bastante bueno, sobre todo en la parte emocional, y su evolución hasta el final se respeta. Y bueno, carácter y ovarios le sobra, sin duda.
Y el otro que no puedo dejar por fuera es el “francotirador”, porque de pana no recuerdo si dicen su nombre como tal 😅. Este personaje es brutal, pasa de ser un NPC cualquiera a tener una subtrama bastante interesante, sobre todo con Rika. Es complejo, tiene presencia, y sinceramente fue uno de los que más me llamó la atención. Lastima que no le dieran más desarrollo en el anime.
Ahora, no todo es perfecto. Algo que a mí personalmente me choca en este tipo de animes es la confianza tan rápida entre personajes. O sea, estás en un mundo donde cualquiera te puede matar o hacerte cualquier locura ¿y tú vas y confías así de fácil? El caso de Yuri con Mayuko es clarito. Se conocen y prácticamente ya hay una confianza ciega y bueno, eso no pasa una sola vez, pasa varias 😅. Uno lo deja pasar, pero igual como que “epa”.
Y lo otro, el final. De pana, yo ODIO los finales abiertos. Y este anime tiene uno bastante abierto. Sí, el manga está completo, pero el anime te deja como en el aire. Y aunque la historia como tal no cambia demasiado, ver ese cierre animado siempre es otra cosa y que no haya ni señales de otra temporada, pega. Aun así, este anime deja cositas interesantes para analizar. El cómo las circunstancias pueden hacerte cambiar completamente, las decisiones morales, el valor de la vida, incluso el tema del suicidio, allí bastante tela que cortar ahí.
Capaz más adelante me lanze un post solo hablando de eso. A pesar de sus detalles, es un anime que disfruté bastante y que me mantuvo pegado, por lo tanto le doy un 9/10.
