Pizza Utopia
Like most pizza lovers, I'm very picky about how I like my pizza made. A thin, crispy crust and a generous amount of sauce is what I covet. Recently, I visited a restaurant called Toss 'N' Fire Pizza. They cook pizzas the original way, in a wood-fired oven. From their website:
Our pizzas cook in just 90-120 seconds while our oven reaches 1000 degree temperatures.
Due to the high temperature of our wood-fired oven some char is expected on our pizza.
Expected? Not only do I expect it, I'm looking forward to it. This is too good to be true. I couldn't wait to try this pizza.
As far as the menu, they offer some appetizers and subs you'd expect to find in any pizza shop. But I was there for one reason. PIZZA! You can have a pizza made to order or choose one of the 22 specialty pizzas. And what choices they are! Some of the more interesting names include the Cheeky Monkey and the Fig 'N' Pig.
Since it was my first time, I chose a pizza I know I love. I went with the classic Margherita.
Tomato sauce topped with pecorino romano, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil and garlic 'n' herb infused olive oil drizzle.
The Verdict
I couldn't wait to get home. As soon as I got into my car I threw open the box. What greeted me was the most beautiful work of art any pizza place had ever created.
I wept.
The girl warned me the pizza would be very hot. She didn't know who she was talking to. I immediately grabbed a slice and bit into it, burning my lip. Another bite. This time burning the roof of my mouth. If that doesn't prove to you how good this pizza tastes (or how stupid I am), then nothing will.
The crust was thin and crispy. The ratio of sauce to cheese was perfect. And a basil leaf on each slice was a nice touch. The taste was delicious. You can tell they use quality ingredients. I can't wait to try the other 21 specialty pizzas. I'll review them as I do.
