This morning lived up to the weather forecast. It was crisp and sunny, and it warmed up to a comfortable temperature fairly quickly, with a refreshing breeze. I hopped on my bike and headed out to Plötzensee again today. Once there, I did a long loop around the lake, starting with interval walking, and took a few breaks here and there for breathing and meditation exercises. Finally, I rode back along a route that was partly new to me, which turned out not to be much longer than I’d first thought. Did I ever mention that north of Plötzensee, on the banks of the Berlin-Spandau Shipping Canal, there’s a metal cross at the site where Wolfgang Herrndorf, the author of the novel “TSCHICK” (which was made into a movie), took his own life? He shot himself there when the tumor in his head made a normal life impossible for him. Well, now you know. Today, I took as many pictures as I could of the boat rental in the southern part of the lake, which has become an abandoned “lost place” due to a death. I’ve brought a few of them back for you. Well, that’s how it is, life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, but hey, you shouldn’t dwell too much on death, but focus on life instead!

Der heutige Morgen hielt, was der Wetterbericht versprach. Es war frisch und sonnig und wurde relativ schnell erträglich warm mit einem frischen Wind dazu. Ich schwang mich aufs Rad und bin heute mal wieder zum Plötzensee gedüst. Dort bin ich dann eine große Runde, anfangs im Intervall-Walking, um den See und hab hier und da ein paar Pausen für Atem- und Meditationsübungen eingelegt. Schlussendlich bin ich dann eine zum Teil neue Strecke zurückgefahren, die sich am Ende als doch nicht viel länger herausstellte, als ich erst dachte. Hatte ich eigentlich schonmal erwähnt, dass nördlich vom Plötzensee am Ufer des Berlin-Spandauer Schifffahrtskanals ein Metallkreuz am Ort des Freitods des Schriftstellers des verfilmten Romans „TSCHICK“, Wolfgang Herrndorf, steht? Er hat sich dort erschossen, als der Tumor in seinem Kopf ihm ein normales Leben unmöglich machte. Nun, jetzt wisst ihr es. Bilder habe ich heute, soweit es mir möglich war, vom Bootsverleih im Süden des Sees gemacht, der aufgrund eines Todesfalls zum verlassenen Lost-Place geworden ist. Ein paar davon hab ich euch mitgebracht. Tja, so ist das, das Leben ist nicht immer nur Sonnenschein und Regenbögen, aber hey, man sollte nicht zu viel über den Tod nachdenken, sondern sich lieber aufs leben fokussieren!
