Dear Steemit friends,
yesterday i visited Discord channel P.A.L. (Peace,Abundance,Liberty) of

With my post i attract even more people to the service and may make the situation even worse, BUT i think of a opportunity.
I'd a short discussion with peppercow..
The Situation
I'd mentioned that since my inception in July 17 the registration count has tripled and thanks to

Obviously we'll see much more users than now on Steemit and what does that mean for upvote-services like P.A.L.? 
The Problem
If not SOMEONE changes the situation it is like above. The same goes for 
For who are new you can see that diagram at minnowbooster.net in the section below. It shows the available amounts of SBD (Steem Dollar) you can send to the service for a boost at the time. A few months ago it was easy to get a boost because their were plenty of offers.
What's the impact?
- many people try to use the service and are upset because it is simply a waste of time to constantly look if it works or congest the network with bouncing transactions
- support get's spammed with the same questions over and over again (When it's up again? Why does it not work?)
- people who delegated Steem Power to the service pull back their SP and make it even worse
What is the simple solution?
- Steemians with enough SP decide to delegate Steem Power to the service - IMPROVEMENT
- service provider decides to cut voting strength - WORSE
They halved already the voting strength, means 50% than before but it's not enough, it needs much more delegation of Steem Power to get a healthy balance for runing the service with so much people is my gut feeling and confirmed by peppercow.
Myself delegated 250 SP months ago to the service. That was a healthy 5% of my SP for delegation at the time which i could afford and gives me enough freedom for my own votes or using other services.
There are two assumptions why we have not enough Steem Power for voting..
- users who cannot afford SP for delegation
- users who want not delegate their SP
For the 1. point the basic requirement is to have at least 50 SP for delegation. If you decide like me, you should have 1,000 SP in your account (5%), but maybe you can increase your share to 10% from 500 SP. That is possible if you buying STEEM on an exchange or earning rewards over time or both.
The 2. point i wanna further subdividing in
2.1 users who are using the service (growing members)
2.2 users who are not using the service (e. g. whales)
My questions are:
What would happen if everybody who uses the service would delegate 10% of his SP?
What would happen if whales found a giving pledge to support such services with 1% of their SP?
Any other solution?
In most cases there are at least 4 solutions and in that case i see 2 more:
a) shutdown the service completely (paradigm shift)
b) users wait patiently (in the future longer and longer making the service useless)
beside the ones mentioned by peppercow
c) massive intake of SP (small amounts by many users, big amounts by whales)
d) reducing voting strength more and more (and make the service almost useless)
Option a) is connected to a controverse discussion on Steemit about bots in general. There are good and bad examples for bot activity.
good
- automate annoying things which are not necessarily should be done by humans and help Steemit to grow
bad
- gaming the system to make profits out of the pool, stealing time from real Steemians, damage the reputation of Steemit
Conclusion
To close here.. it is as always first one must give before take rewards out of the Steemit pool. There is no free lunch! If you wanna get more out of Steemit you should power up your account (via blocktrades.us for example - converting earned SBD to SP or convert other currencies from outside). If you have STEEM in your wallet you can do it directly with the dropdown menu:
If you cannot afford it currently you can earn STEEM and SBD writing posts, replying to the post of others to get upvotes or curation rewards by upvoting others. With that you become more powerful and can also delegate some SP to services to help the community.
With more Steem Power you have simply more fun here because you can GIVE VALUE not just TAKE VALUE.. or in other words you can BUILD and not just DESTROY. To name some options:
- valuable upvotes for good contents to support new users and minnows
- flexible range of value for upvotes (slider) to differentiate your upvotes
- make you more attractive for others who see your commitment
- helpful delegations to services like Minnowsupport, Minnowbooster
- sell your votes to Minnowbooster
- lease your SP to others with Minnowbooster
- value appreciation of STEEM and your SP over time
Because of the many options i decided to hold and further power up my Steem Power (SP). It is simply more fun and more valuable long term, win-win for all.
How can we fix the current situation, not just for P.A.L. and Minnowbooster.. in general?
