Pretty pinks in autumn
Today's painting is of floribunda pink roses, one of my favourite scented roses that I grow in my garden. This beautiful rose just keeps on flowering, we are in autumn and the temperature has dropped but this rose is still covered in buds waiting to bloom. I brought this as a small rose bush but it has shot up over the past year, each time I prune it back it grows even more fabulous flowers.
The process
I wanted a stylised look to this picture, keeping the background colours soft and a flow to the lines. I applied a masking fluid first to create bold highlights before building up pink and greens in watercolours.
Once the initial layers of watercolour were dry I used a smaller brush to apply stronger lines of colour on the petals and details on the leaves.
Voila! A flash of colour on a cold autumn day.
