Hello friends, today I want to tell you about my day to day with my plants, in truth, to grow plants you have to take care of them, I have always said that plants are like children that require our daily care. I have several plants on the balcony and corridors of my apartment, among them: sweet pepper, paprika, long-leafed Creole coriander, coriander, chives, basil, in addition to putting some seeds of fruit plants to germinate, such as: avocado and germinate cherry , that once they have reached the ideal size for transplantation, I take them to my farm.
My Garden journal: My apartment, a real vegetable garden
The idea of this publication is to show that if you can grow plants, even without land available, we just need a little love for them and grow them in pots, on the balcony of the apartment or in a small garden.
As I have told you in previous posts, I have a farm where I grow a wide variety of vegetables, but even so, I also like to grow my vegetables in my apartment, on the balcony and in the hallways I have several plants grown, including: sweet pepper, paprika , basil, coriander, long-leaf creole cilantro, chives, and I also germinate avocado seeds to later take them to the farm. All these plants require a lot of care like those that are grown in the field, that is, there are not many differences, they all require their due watering and the contributions of nutrients for their development.
DAILY GARDEN: My day to day with my plants:
This week I dedicated it to my plants, more time than usual, I was exhaustively checking all the foliage of the plants to try to discover any pests, I even used a MAGNIFYING GLASS, because there are so small mites that it is difficult to detect With the naked eye, in the review I was able to detect the presence of aphids that were beginning to deposit their eggs, well, thank God, they had just arrived and I was able to eliminate them, because the important thing is to prevent them from spreading through all the plants, and here the importance of controlling pests in time, in addition to spraying plants with natural insecticides, such as NEEM plant juice, to keep pests away from the crop.
Through the color of the leaves of the plants we can detect nutrient deficiencies and diseases:
I was also checking the color of the leaves, because through the color we can also detect some nutrient deficiency in the plants, for example, I could see that one of the avocado plants had yellowish and mottled leaves, which meant, that possibly, Due to the lack of micronutrients such as zinc and magnesium, the function of magnesium is to increase the capacity of the plant to carry out the photosynthesis process, to form chlorophyll, which is the pigment that gives plants their green color; As for Zinc (Zn), this is another important micronutrient for plants, since like magnesium, it has to do with the structure of the leaf membrane and therefore in the photosynthesis process, it also helps the plant to your defense against droughts and diseases. This avocado plant, I should have transplanted it much earlier, now I must transplant it immediately, so that it recovers.
In my daily workday, there are the risks:
Daily waterings are important, but when we grow in pots we must take into account that there is little drainage, which means that if we supply too much water to the plant, there is the possibility that many diseases will develop or proliferate, mainly those fungicides, causing rotting in the roots, so be very careful with watering, I recommend only keeping the soil moist.
Beware of granulated fertilizers!
I recommend that you do not use granulated fertilizers on your plants grown in pots,
Granulated fertilizers of the NPK formula are slow-acting, and when they remain in the soil of the pots for a long time they can cause damage to the roots, the ideal thing to fertilize plants grown in pots, is the use of worm humus, fertilizers and composting, easy to do. Fortunately, I have a worm farm where I get the humus for my plants, I also fertilize my plants with a compost that I prepare with vegetable waste, through the composting process.
Do not use granular fertilizers in pots:
Worm humus, and compost compost, the best for your plants:
Potted crop combination:
We can combine some crops, but we must take into account the development time of the plants that we are going to combine, generally, I combine the cultivation of coriander with a sweet pepper plant, because the development of the pepper is quite slow, in a month it can reach a height of only 20 centimeters, while the coriander, in that time we can already harvest it, and we proceed to pluck it or clarify it, and the chili plant will continue its development without any problem. We can also combine chives with coriander, without any problem of slight competition. The important thing in the combination of crops in the pots is that there is no competition for light, so both grow normally.
Well friends, I hope this my "garden journal" has been helpful to you, see you in another publication, where I will follow you, showing the experiences of my crops, greetings
