Sea Wall
As the Mighty Ocean presses up against the land, it shoots up in huge fingers like molten glass or a wall of ice, attempting to perform a land grab. The Sea Wall does it's best to hold it back and usually does a good job, except in the most fierce of storms when the power of the sea can wash away sections of the wall as happened very close to here in the winter storms of 2014, when the railway line was washed away leaving 1000's of people stranded for weeks while it was repaired.
High Tide
It was high tide and late in the afternoon when these fingers of water climbed up onto the land. Using my trusty Panasonic Lumix Gf2 and a tripod this was one of set. The water can throw up shells and seaweed in it's tempest. Even the occasional unwary sea creature has been known to end up on the promenade. exif data is missing from this edited photo (cropped) but would have been 1/1200th sec in the late afternoon fading light.
