Engraving artist Paolo Curcio AKA 'Mr THE' carves tiny relief sculptures into coins, a traditional art form known as the Hobo Nickel. Curcio’s coins feature intricately detailed hobos, skulls, and pop culture characters.
To celebrate his work they released a set of 5 of his designs in 2016 as .999 fine Silver bullion rounds. The first coin is The Fisherman, with the obverse featuring the classic portrait of the hand engraved wandering fisherman. Mr The’s original carving was sculpted over two days, and had a 24 carat Gold inlaid cigarette in his mouth.
The reverse features a mountainous landscape formed from the coin’s original buffalo humps. The original had a copper inlaid fishing rod. Mr The carved the design at 'Engrave-In' over two days as a fundraiser where the world’s best Hobo Nickel engravers share their knowledge for free.
