Fortín Solano: Myths and Legends
Greetings to the entire Hive community! Today in Venezuela we celebrate May 1st, Workers' Day. To be honest, I want to take this opportunity to send warm congratulations to all those who day after day strive for their dreams, to get ahead, and to those who fight every day to bring bread home.
Recently I made a blog about Fortín Solano on the crest of El Vigía hill in Puerto Cabello, and I saw that you liked it. So today I bring you a handful of more photos from this adventure. To be completely honest, we will also visit certain myths and legends that surround it.
Fortín Solano in Puerto Cabello was built in 1766, as I already told you in a previous post. It holds legends about secret passages that connected with Castillo San Felipe, and dark tales of slaves whose bones were mixed into the walls. Quite beautiful in a haunting way, to be honest. Rumors also speak of prisoner ghosts and the use of tunnels as escape routes.
Main Legends and Tales of Fortín Solano:
The Underground Tunnel: It is said that there was a secret tunnel that crossed the city under the sea to connect the fort with Castillo de San Felipe or even towards Borburata — a small cocoa-producing town located 12 km from the city center.
Walls of Blood and Bones: Popular stories suggest that tortured slaves during its construction were buried inside the very walls, mixing their remains with the structure.
Ghosts of El Vigía: Visitors and locals mention sightings of specters of soldiers and prisoners from the colonial era who still guard Cerro El Vigía.
Stories of El Porteñazo: Beyond the colonial period, there are accounts of apparitions related to the military insurrection of 1962, where the fort was a stronghold.
Despite the passage of time, and even beyond how surreal all of this may seem, it makes me think that whether it is true or not, it has become an icon of culture and a historical heritage of our city. To be completely honest, it reminds us of our past, and where we come from.

Recientemente hice un blog acerca del Fortín Solano en la cresta o cerro El Vigía en Puerto Cabello y vi que les gustó. Así que hoy les traigo un puñado de fotos más sobre esta aventura. Para ser completamente honesto, también visitaremos ciertos mitos y ciertas leyendas que le rodean.
El Fortín Solano en Puerto Cabello, construido en 1766, como ya les he conversado en un post anterior, alberga leyendas sobre pasadizos secretos que conectaban con el Castillo San Felipe y cuentos sombríos de esclavos cuyos huesos se mezclaron con las mezcla de los muros. Bastante hermoso de una manera inquietante, para ser honesto. También se rumorea sobre fantasmas de prisioneros y el uso de túneles como rutas de escape.
