In our bid to reduce gun deaths, making it harder for people to buy guns is a popular proposal.
Every proposal has pros and cons. This video highlighted a few downsides by comparing Great Britain where it is very difficult to buy a gun to the USA which has over 300 million guns:
Do you want to be home and at higher risk of injury when your house is burgled?
- In the USA, only 13% of burglaries occur when occupants are home because the burglars do not want to take the risk of the occupant having a gun and shooting them.
- In the UK, 60% of burglaries occur while the occupants are home because of the presence of wallets, purses, and cash and almost no chance of getting shot.
Woman 3 times more likely to be raped
- Women in the UK are 3 times more likely to be raped then women in the USA because it is less likely the woman in the UK will have a gun to defend herself.
As we look for the best ways to reduce gun deaths, I think it is important to understand there are pluses and minuses to every proposal. We need to be careful to minimize the downsides.
Why has Google's YouTube restricted access to this video but not school shooters?
By now you know the Florida School Shooter had been on YouTube posting about his desire to become a "professional school shooter" without any restriction by Google's YouTube.
What you may not know is Google's YouTube has restricted access to the video at the top of this post as not appropriate.
Watch it and compare it to what else is out there on YouTube. You decide, is it appropriate?
Tell Google to get its priorities right. To stop the political censorship. To allow free speech like this video and report threats of violence against school kids to the authorities.
