Let me introduce you to the two ladies!
During our short stay in the bushveld, we were fortunate to encounter a wide variety of animals! I will endeavor to post some of the animals for your viewing pleasure!
These ladies are of the "Taurotagus derbianus" family and they are called "Elands's" in the plural, but 'Eland" in the singular.
The eland is also South Africa's biggest antelope and the second biggest antelope in the world, only slightly smaller that the "Giant Eland" of Western Africa.
But let me show you some more!
And here is mister eland that also sends his greetings!
The male elands use their horns for fighting other males and the lady elands use their horns as weapons to protect their young!
Here we see a family picnic! Did you know that when startled, an adult eland can jump higher than six feet and a youngster can jump even higher!
A leisurely rest after the day's activities!
And this one is having a snack between the African thorn trees before retiring for the night!
Female elands weigh between (500-600kg) and elands are the slowest of the antelopes. They can run up to a speed of 40 kilometers an hour for short distances, but they can trot for miles. It was wonderful to capture them on my camera in their natural environment and although the pictures look close, I took them at a fair distance of about 300 meters.
One would be foolish to get on the wrong end of an eland's horns, especially if they have youngsters.

All of the pictures are my own.
