There are a lot of bewildering and befuddling contraptions that show up at the Port Townsend Steampunk Festival each year, but today I have to write about the one that eclipses them all. I mean, I've see airships, time machines, ray guns and image-capturers, but I've never seen something like this.
This is the stuff dreams are made of...
As a sailor myself in a past life, my heart belongs to the sea. This ship not only has sails, but wings. Yes, wings!
It comes equipped ready to take on kraken or airship pirates. I can only imagine the action this sound vessel has seen in her lifetime. Thick armor keeps the portholes from imploding as the kraken attacks. Because of the rich diet of salmon in the Northwest, local kraken can exude as much as 3000 lbs of pressure per square inch of their tentacles, so I imagine this armor is vital for safe crossings. Gouges in the thick iron showed where past attacks had occurred.
Harpoons were everywhere, and always at the ready.
There were other unknown weapons on display, perhaps to discourage any nefarious behavior while in port.
The anchor, though it seemed a little large, would probably be dropped in an event that the vessel had an encounter with a kraken. Perhaps the heavy weight of the anchor would allow the crew to exhaust the beast before dealing it a final blow?
All in all, this is the most amazing thing I've ever seen while in port. It is the perfect exhibition of what is possible when someone dreams!
If you want to see her in action, here's a link to a video of her.... I think the crew were trolling in the shallows for young kraken... https://steemit.com/art/@parusa/1f8jswey
