Did you know what to do when you joined steemit? or did you have to look for help?
I have over 500 friends on fb and ive been promoting steemit to them, many are contacting me to ask me how to use the site!!
Yes its simple if you know how. but even the most simple things can be alien if you don't know the answer.
Looking at the amount of new accounts V's active accounts its plain to see that many people jumped on the steemit bandwagon and then suddenly didn't do anything.
Usually when you join a new site, if you like it you end up spending most of your time on it. this is not happening here.
why?
I believe its because a lot of newbies don't know how to use the site, they got here, tried to post something , then gave up IMHO.
The main questions im getting from my fb friends is how do you post a pic? and how do you post in a catagory?
I have been on pc's for quite a few yrs now and i didn't even know how to set the catagory. as a web designer years ago, i thought the tag field was for meta-tags. i had to search on steemit for the answer.
The answer didn't help completely because it said to use the # tag. so i tried # introduceyourself, which obviously didn't work lol.
Surely it would be simple enough to give a few instructions on the 'submit a story' page. like how to post an image?, or how to use the tags? or maybe a bit of info to point out that its good etiquette to do a proper introduceyourself post. It could be done in the form of a help button so as not to clutter up the posting page with info.
Surely the aim of steemit at the moment is to get as many people on board as possible?
Looks like the advertising worked when we suddenly jumped to over 50,000 users in the past few weeks, but then didn't become active. has that advertising been to avail? have those potential users been lost?
In this day and age people are becoming more impatient, just look how you yourself use the internet. when you do a google search you probably expect to find the answer in the first few listings. at most you'l scroll down the page and maybe go to page 2 if you really really have to.
The point im trying to make is people need it simple and often explained to them, they don't want to waste time looking for answers on how to do something. A lot of people on the internet that steemit is trying to attract are not techy savy, like a lot of the current users. i think most of the current active users are from the crypto background or reddit. so they are more aware of what to do, or how to find the answers.
I'd like to know what other people think about this issue. Did you know what to do when you joined?
Or if this is not the issue, what is?
