A brief trip to Copenhagen and Stockholm gave me just enough taste of wanting to come back for more. Both Scandinavian cities are regarded as having the highest standard of living in the world, and it shows in every way. They are very clean, picturesque places, with an abundance of good food and a zest for life.
COPENHAGEN
This colorful lined canal was directly in front of the hotel we stayed in. It was like a dream!
We were so excited upon our arrival, we ran right out to begin exploring...
...and immediately got sucked in for a quick bite before continuing on our journey through Copenhagen.
Along our walk down the river, different sights we encountered were Amalienborg Palace (behind the fountain), where Denmark's royal family resides,
a replica of Michelangelo's statue of David outside The Royal Cast Collection building on Langelinie Promenade,
St. Alban's Church with the Gefion Fountain in front of it,
and The Little Mermaid.
After being in Scandinavia for some time already, we were craving pizza for a change.
Off to Stockhom...
STOCKHOLM
Immediately after checking-in, we went to get some lunch. This nicoise salad was my choice, yum!
We went back to our hotel to get ready for our day ahead, but enjoyed a glass of wine (or 3) with a panoramic view from the rooftop of our hotel in Gamla stan, The Old Town.
Our walk around Östermalm, a wealthy area of Stockholm, we took in the beautiful Stockholm archipelago.
It was getting late, so we went back to Gamla stan, where we were staying. It's a very cool, medieval part of Stockholm with narrow winding cobblestone streets full of restaurants, cafés, bars, and boutiques.
This picture was taken at 10:30pm and the sun is still out.
We went for a delicious Swedish dinner, but we were so hungry, I forgot to get some pics of it to share. Just imagine grilled lax (salmon), boiled potatoes, and lingonberry.
Although short, it was a perfect little getaway to Copenhagen and Stockholm. Both cities wonderful, but Stockholm my definite favorite of the two. If you ever get the chance to visit either one, you should jump on it!
