a "newbie" Question from Philanthropest

I am fairly new to Steemit... I would like some advice regarding 'etiquette' from fellow Steemers.

When someone submits $ to one of your posts, can it disappear?? or be 'taken away'?

I ask because one of my posts received $14.37....YAY,, but someone sent me a complaint in comments, and now that $ is gone (??))

Did I do something improper?

PLEASE advise.. and all input is welcome!
