Today felt like one of those quiet wins that don’t look dramatic, but do a lot for the soul. I managed to get my house chores done, and I even had time to take a mid-afternoon nap. Honestly, that combination feels like the perfect “reset button” before the work week begins. It’s funny how a simple nap can make you feel like you’ve reclaimed a little bit of your life.
What makes it even better is the thought that there’s another break coming soon, New Year’s Day on Thursday. One more free day to rest, right in the middle of the week, almost like a reminder that we don’t have to sprint nonstop. After how busy this whole year has been, it actually feels reasonable to take as much rest as we can before the new year officially starts. Sometimes the best way to prepare for what’s next is to slow down on purpose.
I also noticed how seriously other people are taking rest too. My colleague is on a two-week break from before Christmas until after New Year. Part of me thinks, good for him. Maybe the stress piled up so much that he needed real distance from work, not just a weekend. I hope when he comes back, he feels lighter, clearer, and ready to show up again without feeling drained.
As Anne Lamott said, “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you.”
So now I’m curious, are you also planning to rest a bit more before the new year starts?
