Another nice thing about posting personal rather than commercial content is that I can post it at 3am and not care that a lot of people are sound asleep. :) I'm about to hit the hay myself but not before leaving you with another poem (because the last one was so much fun, right?). This was essentially the goodbye letter I left for my family of origin when I finally decided to leave them in the dust. I refused to adapt to my parents' religion and had outgrown their "small pond" environment in every way that matters. My ambitions were great and if I were to grow into the man I knew I could become, my only option was to get away and save myself. I couldn't stick around to be shaped into someone that would better fit in. In hindsight, removing myself from that environment wasn't only the best move I ever made but damn, I wish I had done it much much sooner.
Mirrored Glasses
Illusion all around me in this prison without bars.
Born a slave imprisoned by the information czars.
Everyone’s so certain as they’re walking in their sleep.
I’m calling out in silence here among all the sheep.
I feel like I’ve been falling behind.
I must be on my way.
I’ll fill you in another time
and tell you another day about
The Wizard of Oz and the crowds that he draws,
Big Brother and The Party and its fundamental flaws.
I’ll tell you when I’m finished what I’m gonna do
But for now, you’ll have to carry on some more without a clue.
Defenders of the system trying hard and meaning well.
Trying to convert me back into an empty shell.
With lines of code all over me like graffiti on a wall.
I laugh out loud inside when they won’t stick to me at all.
No more waiting for a sign.
It ends here today.
You can’t hold me back this time.
Someday I’ll explain
The Wizard of Oz and the crowds that he draws,
Big Brother and The Party and its fundamental flaws.
I’ll tell you when I’m finished what I’m gonna do
But for now, you’ll have to carry on some more without a clue.
Wearing mirrored glasses, telling lies and blowing smoke.
I drenched you in my bullshit and I left you there to soak.
When the dust has settled, I will remove the veil
But now I have to disappear and cover-up my trail.
We’re running out of time and I can’t afford to wait.
I’d love to stay and fight with you but I’ve got a date with
The Wizard of Oz and the crowds that he draws,
Big Brother and The Party and its fundamental flaws.
I’ll tell you when I’m finished what I’m gonna do
But for now, you’ll have to carry on some more without a clue.
Another place, another time, and as another man,
Free of riddle, free of rhyme, I’ll show you all I can.
I’ll tell you when I’m finished what I’m gonna do
But for now, you’ll have to carry on some more without a clue.
