G'day. Today I got the latest brochure of new releases in the mail from the Perth Mint.
When I saw the cover it blew me away - the most unusual piece I've ever seen.
(I'm saving that for the next post that will follow this shortly, so suffer in suspense)
The other new release that caught my eye was the 1KG Silver Coin - A New Release of the "Year of the Dog" Lunar Series with unique feature.
The eye of the Adult Dog has been set with a Blue Sapphire - Very Spectacular.
In the usual Perth Mint high standards, it comes in great custom packaging.

Featuring a spectacular blue sapphire this 1 kilo silver gemstone edition is a limited offering from the Australian Lunar Silver Coin Series II and features the Year of the Dog design.
99.99% Pure Silver
The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1 kilo of 99.99% pure silver in proof quality.
Sparkling Blue Sapphire
The reverse of the coin depicts a coloured German shepherd dog and pup lying in grass with Chinese peony flowers in the background. The dog has a blue sapphire set into its eye. The Chinese character for ‘dog’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Dog’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin's obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2018 year-date and the monetary denomination.
Limited Mintage
The Perth Mint will release no more than 500 of the 2018 Year of the Dog 1 Kilo Silver Gemstone Edition.
Lunar Presentation Packaging with Numbered Certificate
Each coin is housed in a classic black and red display case and illustrated shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
