It's crazy how you could be living your life, spending your own money, and just minding your business and yet, creating enemies unknowingly for yourself.
Almost everyone over here is a hustler, so there are a lot of small business owners at every nook and cranny in this place; every day someone is selling something new. And although that might seem like a good thing, the bad thing about it is the lack of consistency.
A lot of these people who start businesses from their homes never seem to do it for long; one minute they're selling this, the next minute the business is done. Then fast forward to three months later, and they're selling something else. But of course, it's not my problem, so I've never really paid attention to any of it; I just go about my business and mainly go to the shops of the people I've been going to for years because I've built a rapport with them and they've always been consistent.
Well, fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, and this lady from my building had approached me to tell me that she now sells drinking water and that I could always buy from her instead of going all the way down the street where I usually go to buy water.
I had replied okay, although I had no intentions to buy from her because, one, she doesn't have cold water because she doesn't have a fridge, and two, I already had someone who is very reliable and has always been the one I bought water from.
So weeks went by, and I think I tried buying from her on two separate occasions but was disappointed with what I got, so I went back to buying from my usual store, only to recently find out that I had made a new enemy for myself simply because I decided to spend my money where I wanted it spent.
It made me remember the saying that you could be on your own, minding your business, and still somehow find yourself in trouble. And although I don't feel sorry for anything, I just think it's crazy how entitled some people can be at times. Because here you are, getting upset that I no longer patronize you, not realizing that in order for me to patronize you, I have to stop patronizing someone else, which also would most likely get them feeling bad too.
But I guess over here we don't care how the next person feels as long as we're on the winning side.
