My weightloss journey didn't just begin last week. It's been a long continuous battle filled with ups and downs. I have struggled with eating disorders since I was 10 and it just hasn't gotten any easier. When I was younger it was starving myself or binging to the point of vomiting. As I've gotten older, it's turned into emotional eating. Eating to celebrate, eating when I'm depressed, eating when I'm bored. I'm sure you get the picture.
At one point in time I was a Team Beachbody coach, lost 30 lbs, became a Certified Fitness Instructor and felt good. Then I sustained a knee injury that took me out of the game for a while.
Around the same time, my husband and I had a failed IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) attempt. With a 5 year Infertility diagnosis and our first procedure, we were extremely hopeful. Unfortunately it just didn't work as we had hoped leading me to depression.
I gained that 30 lbs back, plus some and continued a life of being sedentary.
In May I had a few friends introduce me to the Ketogenic diet. They had all had success with it with little to no exercise at all and thought this would be perfect! I could lose some weight BEFORE I started exercising, to hopefully lessen the risk of injury due to the weight gain.
(Ketogenic diet (Keto) = Low Carb, High Fat Moderate Protein)
Now while I got off on a great start first starting out with Keto (losing 7lbs in 7 days and 11 lbs total in 3 weeks), soon I found myself at Disney World consuming spaghetti, chocolate, bread, all things NOT allowed.
I gained 9lbs during vacation despite walking over 40 miles at Disney World and sweating to death.
Once home, I lost 7 of the 9 lbs easily, but have been sitting pretty at the same weight for the last 5 weeks or so
I decided to do a little research on plateaus on the ketogenic diet and came across several blogs and websites speaking of Egg Fasting.
Egg fasting is a (short term) diet that consists primarily of eggs, cheese, and butter. For each egg you eat, you should eat a corresponding Tbsp of pure fat in the form of butter, olive oil, or coconut oil. You can also eat a corresponding Tbsp of full fat cheese per egg. Doing this will result in an extremely low carb, high fat, moderate protein intake that will kickstart your body into fat burning mode.
Today I begin the short journey that IS the Egg Fast and will be documenting my experience over the next few days.
