This is a question that has echoed through generations, from the days of Job to our present world filled with pain, uncertainty and struggle. The Bible does not ignore this reality instead it gives us deep insight into why tribulations exist and how we should respond to them.
Firstly, tribulations can come as a result of living in a fallen world. When sin entered through Adam and Eve, suffering became part of human life. This means not every hardship is a direct punishment from God but a consequence of a broken world where pain, sickness and disappointment exist.
God also sometimes allows tribulations to test and strengthen our faith. The story of Job clearly shows a righteous man who faced intense suffering not because he sinned but because his faith was being proven.
James 1:3 reminds us that the testing of our faith produces patience. Just like gold is refined by fire, believers are refined through trials.
Another reason for tribulations is correction. Hebrews 12:6 tells us that God disciplines those He loves. When people go astray, God may allow certain difficulties to guide them back to the right path. This discipline is not meant to destroy but to restore.
Tribulations also help us depend more on God. In times of comfort, people often forget God, but in times of trouble, hearts turn back to Him.
Tribulations are part of life, but they are not without purpose. Whether for testing, correction or growth and God uses them to shape us into better people. As believers, we are encouraged to remain steadfast, knowing that God is always present even in the storms of life.
