Hey everyone, hope you are having a good day..
We are living a lockdown life and right now we have to manage everything with our daily life. Even some of us leading a budget life and compromising many things as we are not allowed to go outside often.
I know many of us managing their life and trying to eat and cook what is available at home. Right now, this is our life and we have to accept it.
I am also living a budget life and compromising many things; it's natural due to the current situation. By the way today I was craving for Bengali food so I decided to make typical Bengali Food called Vorta.
It is basically mash, similar to potato mash and red lentils mash but in Bengali style.
So let me share my recipe...
Bengali Style Potato and Red Lentils Mashes (Alu and Daal Vorta)..
The recipe is very simple and easy to make but really delicious. You don't need many ingredients for these mashes, only a few items and you can take it with plain rice. To be honest, these mashes are one of the favorite foods of Bangladeshis.
All You need :
- Red Lentils
- Potatoes
- Onions
- Dry Chili Flakes
- Egg
- Macla / Ghee (Clarified butter made of cow or buffalo)
- Mustard Oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- Turmeric
Potato Mash / Alu Vorta..
It's very easy and simple, for this you need a boiled egg, chopped onions, dry chili flakes, ghee, salt, pepper, and potatoes.
First, you have to peel off the potatoes, wash them and boil them for mash. Add some salt and pepper into it.
Potatoes will be soft after the boil and ready for mash. You can use your washed hand or masher to mash up the potatoes. Then add onions, ghee, chili flakes and mash properly.
Later add one boil egg as well but this is optional. I love eggs so I always add an egg. Then again mixed everything well and ready to eat. You can use mustard oil instead of ghee as well.
Red Lentils Mash / Daal Vorta..
First, you have to boil red lentils with salt, turmeric, and oil. Wait until the water is dry and lentil is properly boiled. You can add a little piece of garlic as well if you want.
It will look dry and cooked as well. Then add onions, salt, mustard oil, chili flakes and mash everything together.
Finally, it will look like this...
This is our traditional, easy tasty Bengali food and many people love to eat these mashes in lunch with plain rice. We have different types of mashes and hopefully, I will share this type of short easy recipe soon. It's easy and cheap as well.
Best quarantine Bengali Food ever...
