Those who practice evil and those who advise the manipulation of people think they are so clever, as if they were the only ones with gray matter. But that view is shallow and wrong. Real intelligence is not measured by the ability to trick or manipulate, but by the power to build, to love, and to lift others up.
I’ve always been struck by how Machiavelli wrote his famous book The Prince as if he were the only intelligent one. Deep down, I’ve always believed — and I have strong reasons to back my thesis — that the highest intelligence is tied to goodness. The truly intelligent people are, without a doubt, those who show the greatest empathy, understanding, and generosity.
Evil, envy, and low passions are proof that a mind has not evolved enough, cognitively speaking, to reach the highest levels of intelligence. A mind that is truly developed does not get dragged down by meanness; it seeks truth, justice, and the common good.
Every human being can see Jesus as I do, as the Messiah and Savior. I respect those who see him only as a historical figure. What cannot be denied, even by the majority of historians, is that Jesus is the most influential person in history. In fact, we count time itself based on the date that tradition marks as his birth.
Among the many deep phrases and parables he spoke, one stands out: “You will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.” He also told us to turn the other cheek. The man who has most influenced history, the one who has made humanity think more than anyone else, spoke of the way, the truth, the life, and the purpose of existence through nonviolence, love of neighbor, forgiveness, dialogue, faith, and hope.
These values are especially needed in the times we live in now — painful and cruel times. Yet I am convinced we are witnessing the birth of a new era, where common sense, intelligence, goodness, and solidarity will prevail. New international organizations will rise, free from chronic inaction and empty speeches. The symptoms of a humanity that has been abject and soulless will fade away.
The representatives of evil try to fight so that humanity does not wake up, so that it stays stuck in inertia. But all their resistance will be vain and foolish. They will not succeed in stopping the common good from taking charge of the destiny of nations. This terrible time is nothing more than the clash between barbarism — which resists but cannot win — and the rise, like a mighty sun, of true civilization: a noble and good universe, globalized for the first time, free from the forces of evil.
True intelligence, inseparable from the common good, will be the light that guides humanity toward that dawn.
And when that dawn comes, it will not be a sudden miracle but the result of countless acts of kindness, of solidarity between strangers, of forgiveness where hatred once ruled. It will be the fruit of people choosing dialogue over violence, compassion over cruelty, and hope over despair. The triumph of the common good will not erase the memory of suffering, but it will transform it into wisdom, into lessons that prevent humanity from falling again into the same abyss.
The path is not easy, and the confrontation with barbarism is real. Yet history shows us that every time darkness has tried to dominate, light has eventually broken through. The common good is stronger than selfishness, stronger than greed, stronger than the arrogance of those who think they alone possess intelligence. The future belongs not to manipulation or deceit, but to the clarity of truth and the nobility of goodness.
This is why I insist: true intelligence is not cold calculation or cunning strategy. True intelligence is the ability to see beyond oneself, to embrace the collective destiny of humanity, and to act in harmony with values that elevate rather than degrade. When intelligence and goodness walk together, they become unstoppable.
The dawn of this new era will be the proof that humanity, despite its pain and cruelty, is capable of rising to its highest calling. And in that rise, the common good will shine as the guiding star, leading us into a civilization that is noble, compassionate, and free.
"La verdadera inteligencia y el triunfo del bien común"
Los que practican el mal y los que aconsejan la manipulación de las personas creen que son muy inteligentes, como si fueran los únicos que poseen materia gris. Pero esa visión es superficial y equivocada. La verdadera inteligencia no se mide por la capacidad de engañar o manipular, sino por el poder de construir, de amar y de elevar a los demás.
Siempre me ha llamado la atención cómo Maquiavelo escribió su famoso libro El Príncipe como si él fuera el único inteligente. En el fondo, siempre he pensado —y tengo razones sólidas para sostener mi tesis— que la inteligencia más alta está ligada a la bondad. Las personas verdaderamente inteligentes son, sin lugar a dudas, aquellas que muestran la mayor empatía, comprensión y generosidad.
La maldad, la envidia y las bajas pasiones son pruebas de que una mente no ha evolucionado lo suficiente, desde el punto de vista cognitivo, como para alcanzar los niveles más altos de inteligencia. Una mente verdaderamente desarrollada no se deja arrastrar por la mezquindad; busca la verdad, la justicia y el bien común.
Cada ser humano puede ver a Jesús como lo veo yo: como el Mesías y Salvador. Respeto, por supuesto, a quienes lo consideran solo un personaje histórico. Lo que no puede negarse, incluso por la mayoría de los historiadores, es que Jesús es la figura más influyente de la historia. De hecho, contamos el tiempo en función de la fecha que la tradición señala como su nacimiento.
Entre las muchas frases y parábolas profundas que pronunció, destaca aquella que dice: “Conoceréis la Verdad y la Verdad os hará libres”. También nos habló de poner la otra mejilla. El hombre que más ha influido en la historia, el que más ha hecho pensar a la humanidad, habló del camino, de la verdad, de la vida y del propósito de la existencia a través de la no violencia, del amor al prójimo, del perdón, del diálogo, de la fe y de la esperanza.
Estos valores son especialmente necesarios en los tiempos que vivimos ahora, tiempos dolorosos y crueles. Sin embargo, estoy convencido de que estamos presenciando el nacimiento de una nueva era, en la que prevalecerán el sentido común, la inteligencia, la bondad y la solidaridad. Surgirán nuevos organismos internacionales, libres de la inacción crónica y de los discursos vacíos. Los síntomas de una humanidad abyecta y sin alma desaparecerán poco a poco.
Los representantes del mal intentan luchar para que la humanidad no despierte, para que permanezca atrapada en la inercia. Pero toda su resistencia será vana y necia. No lograrán impedir que el bien común asuma el destino de las naciones. Este tiempo terrible no es más que el choque entre la barbarie —que se resiste pero no puede vencer— y el surgimiento, como un sol imponente, de la verdadera civilización: un universo noble y bueno, globalizado por primera vez y libre de las fuerzas del mal.
La verdadera inteligencia, inseparable del bien común, será la luz que guíe a la humanidad hacia ese amanecer.
Y cuando ese amanecer llegue, no será un milagro repentino, sino el resultado de incontables actos de bondad, de solidaridad entre desconocidos, de perdón allí donde antes reinaba el odio. Será el fruto de personas que eligen el diálogo en lugar de la violencia, la compasión en lugar de la crueldad y la esperanza en lugar de la desesperación. El triunfo del bien común no borrará la memoria del sufrimiento, pero lo transformará en sabiduría, en lecciones que impedirán que la humanidad vuelva a caer en el mismo abismo.
El camino no es fácil, y la confrontación con la barbarie es real. Sin embargo, la historia nos muestra que cada vez que la oscuridad ha intentado dominar, la luz finalmente ha logrado abrirse paso. El bien común es más fuerte que el egoísmo, más fuerte que la codicia, más fuerte que la arrogancia de quienes creen que solo ellos poseen inteligencia. El futuro no pertenece a la manipulación ni al engaño, sino a la claridad de la verdad y a la nobleza de la bondad.
Por eso insisto: la verdadera inteligencia no es cálculo frío ni estrategia astuta. La verdadera inteligencia es la capacidad de ver más allá de uno mismo, de abrazar el destino colectivo de la humanidad y de actuar en armonía con valores que elevan en lugar de degradar. Cuando la inteligencia y la bondad caminan juntas, se vuelven imparables.
El amanecer de esta nueva era será la prueba de que la humanidad, a pesar de su dolor y crueldad, es capaz de elevarse a su más alta vocación. Y en ese ascenso, el bien común brillará como la estrella guía, conduciéndonos hacia una civilización noble, compasiva y libre.
