Happy Friday my food flicking friends. I know I’m only posting once a week right now but it seems that Fridays are happening every other day. I swear time flies here and I know, I’m repeating myself weekly 🤷🏼♀️
How’s the clan today? Food Fight Friday is such a cool group of people. Apparently, I don’t get on Steemit for anyone else so you know they are Captain Super Cool.
Dandays and I are chillen in our Air B and B because our new location is huuuueee midddd. Hot is cool and all (you like what I did there) but this is sticky icky icky. I’m giving us a week to adjust and then we have to head on over to Panama. Maybe that climate will offer a small reprieve but we aren’t counting on it.
For the past two weeks I’ve lifted my dietary restrictions and have consumed whatever I wanted. It was a delicious two weeks. Now I’m back on the health train watching everything I eat with the comforting notion that I’ll take a day off here and there a couple times a month. Do you know how exhausting it is to watch every single ingredient you consume? I have to read Ingredients in Spanish and deduce weather (because it’s so frikken hot) I can eat it. Usually, if I’m not 100% certain I put the item back and walk away.
Last week, however, I was on a glorious junk food tour mixed with a few healthy options 😉. Check it out…
Night one, landing in Golfito, Costa Rica and walking all of our stuff up several flights of stairs had us sticky sweaty and famished. We headed across the street from our pad to watch the sunset and eat something that I didn’t have to cook. My salad was perfect with just the right amount of papaya and pineapple but my French fries (that I’m trying to blur into the background) was where it was at for me. I dipped them in buffalo sauce and ketchup, not at the same time of course. Probably an every other fry type of rotation. 😋
Doesn’t that water look refreshing? I think it was sweating as much as we were. My God, my sweat sweats here but the view is always killer. We are still actively looking for a part of the coast where we can see the sun drop over the water without obstruction. Hard life, I know.
Earlier that day we stopped at a joint in Jaco for lunch/breakfast. By the time we got there I was beyond hungry. This Italian veggie Sammie looked good to me. We both got the same thing but I quickly added an açai bowl for us to share because why not 🤷🏼♀️? These things are my kryptonite.
I mean, look at that beaut… the only thing left after lunch was that flower and I’m not certain that didn’t sneak a bite before we left. Lunch was perfect plus it broke up our 5 hour drive.
I meant to get back on my diet the day after we got here but then I saw a sign…
It basically told me to go and have that falafel lunch from the only place you found within miles, at the restaurant that seemed to be the most fancy joint in Golfito. You read it that way too, right?! 🤷🏼♀️
At first, our server tried telling me they were out of falafel. I literally did one of these 🤦🏼♀️ and let out a defeated “nooooo”… but after a minute and a quick decision to only have French fries then, our server came to our table wearing a cape; like a hero he said I can have the falafel but it’ll take a few more minutes. No sweat (or maybe a little) I was in.
Dandays got his fish and chips while I occupied myself with water and Cajun spiced French fries. Not such a bad wait.
The plate looked gorgeous, and they came with a side of warm pita triangles. Dandays grabbed for some pita and made a quick hummus swipe before I could get a respectable fork full ready for the landing. I built a mini pita pizza bite with the triangles, hummus, half a falafel and some of that cucumber/tomato salad. It was good because I was anticipating it but not the best falafel I’ve had. In fact, it was much prettier than it was tasty but it did the trick.
We decided to hang for awhile because the breeze coming off of the water made being outside tolerable. Around 3:30 is when the sweat beads resisted the cool breeze, and decided to run down my neck anyway. It was time…
… blueberry, pineapple, smoothie time. I don’t think I’ve ever downed a smoothie faster. I must admit, it was even slightly embarrassing the way I slurped that ish gone in 2.5 seconds. It cooled me down for a second but then it was time to skedaddle.
Today, I write from day 2 of my stupid diet. Can you tell I’m thrilled about it? It’s probably more of a carb withdrawal attitude I have or maybe it’s the sugar talking but whatever it is, it has me feining for more than this…
I desperately tried to make fathead dough by suggestion of , so I could make toast and spread avocado on it, but it turned out more like cheese discs than bread. It was the last of my coconut flour too and I can’t get any of that all the way down here… big booooo ! I’m going to go sip my water and think about all of the yummy foods I can’t eat now.
Happy friends and I’ll be over at your page checking everything out shortly. Thanks for going on a food tour with me today.
Pura Vida ✌️
