Life is all about choices. But it depends what choice to make. For a happy life a person should make a right choice at a right time. If they fail to make a choice then their life will turn into hell. And it would be better to die than living in such hell like condition.
Here are the verses from sanskrit which talks about the different option a person could make for better living.
वरं बाल्ये मृत्युर्न पुनरधनं यौवनमिदं
वरं भार्या वेश्या न पुनरविनीता कुलवधूः|
वरं देशत्यागो न पुनरविवेकिप्रभुपुरं
वरं देहत्यागो न पुनरधमाSगारमटनम्||
Varam baalye mrutyurna punaradhanam yauvanamida.
Varam bhaaryaa veshyaa na punaravineetaa kulavadhooh.
Varam deshatyaago na punaravivekiprabhupuram.
Varam dehatyaago na punaradhamaagaaramatanam.

Varam = it is preferable.
Baalye = during childhood.
Mrutyrna = Mrutyuh + na.
Mrutyuh = death.
Na = not.
Punaradhanam = punah + adhanam. Punah = again.
Adhanam = without wealth.
Yauvanamidam = yauvanam + idam. Yauvana = youth.
Idam = this.
Bhaaryaa = wife.
Veshyaa = a prostitute. Punaravineetaa = punah + avineetaa. Avineetaa = ill-mannered and rude.
Kulavadhoo = a virtuous wife. Deshtyaago = leave one's own Country.
Punaraviveki-prabhupuram = Punah + aviveki + prabhu + puram. Aviveki = not judicious and prudent. Prabhu = master, employer.
Puram = a city.
Dehatyaago = death.
Punah + adhamam + aagaar + atanam. Adhamam = vile and wicked persons. Aagaara = house, dwelling place. Atanam = roaming about or wandering.
"It is preferable to die in early childhood rather than to be a pauper during one's youth. Instead of having a rude and ill-mannered wife, it is better to have a prostitute as a wife. Instead of being a servant of a person who is not prudent and judicious, one should better leave that town and settle in a foreign country. It is also preferable to die rather than living in the company of vile and wicked persons."
A happy life required peace in life. But in case we were inncondition mentioned above, no way peace will remain to us. So better switch to alternate choice else die. Because a person will unable tolerate all the pain that comes with these condition.
