Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam is a region worth of indigenous charms and traditions of life, not only in the religious sphere but on the cultural side which is very strong with traditional religion.
In addition to traditional and cultural diversity, such as the diversity of languages, food, dance, Aceh, the most endangered island of Sumatra also has a tradition of games that become the entertainment of its people, one of them is 'Layang Tunang' or known in the region as 'Geulayang Tunang'.
If we read history, kite play is a long tradition or habit for the people of Aceh long before this country seizes independence, meaning that playing Layang Tunong has been valid since the previous people in Aceh.
I just want to tell you here, Kite Tradition is not just a kite flying, Layang Tunang is also very much competed in big events and usually kite competitions in the title after the people of Aceh finished doing rice paddy.
Why are kite competitions held after community harvest? Of course this question is very thoughtful, the answer is when the rice harvest is definitely in the dry season, in addition to dry fields, kite players can freely use rice fields to play kites.
Well, there are so many types of kites that exist, and each region in Aceh has its own distinctive features of both kites and kites, but the only type of race from Layang Tunang or known as Layang Aceh.
Why is it called Tunang? The Tunnel Name is a specification of winning conditions in a kite competition, ie when the kite flies high and stands above the head and survives for a certain time, then the kite is the champion.
In this Flyover race, arranged a number of provisions, not all kites can race, at every race there are certain conditions such as the size of the kite, the length of the yarn while the kite motive released according to each strategy.
Friends must be curious about how this kite game is contested, when the 'Layang Tunang' race begins, the first participant measures the yarn according to a specified distance, for example 20 thousand meters, after which the kite must be raised simultaneously or released simultaneously.
After all the participants are released their kites, the participants mine the kite thread, and the kite gap airs for a prescribed time, for the high flying kite and stand up straight above our heads for a moment.
then he is the winner, no wonder not a few kites fall before the time comes, the makas itself is in love.
This kite racing is very unique and interesting, crowded spectators who come from various areaeven tourists like to follow this kite race contest. Each round of kites that are released is an exciting moment to be seen in every race.
Now, unlike first, kite flying and even kite competitions are rarely encountered, arguably this tradition is almost extinct, a 'kite' race can only be done on entertainment to commemorate the big day day. , such as celebrating Independence Day, or commemorating the anniversary of the region orat the Cultural Week of Aceh five years earlier.
In this ki a e, game is not only race, but there is also a game called 'Adu Layang Tunang' kite that has been done by Aeh community since at work.
This fight is played by every farmer after harvest, farmers usually play kites on their fields during the holidays. Kite flying is done by a grown man, the number of kites being flown in a fight in the air, which is the strongest thread he is the winner.
Kites are usually played in groups or teams, usually like 5 to 7 people, do not be surprised the winners of these kites usually give goats even cows. Giving animals will be slaughtered and cooked to eat together, after the end of the race.
It's hard not to fly these kites, actually the bigger the size of the kites the harder it will be for us to fly, but also difficult when we wake up, make the kites is very needed specifically, not everyone can be made a good kite and a draw when flown.
In order to revive the game 'Layang Tunang' which became the entertainment of the people, the government through the Department of Tourism and Culture of Lhokseumwe City, Aceh held a monastery 'Layang Tunang' contest in Aceh.
The recent rally was held in the hills of the Japanese Cave of an area once occupied as Dutch fortress in Blang Panyang Village, Muara Dua Sub-District, Lhokseumawe City.
Participants who attended the race was recorded as many as 44 participants from 12 areas of cities and districts in Aceh and the race 'Layang Tunang' is an annual agenda that must be done to conserve tradition 'Layang Tunang' photo that I attached in this blog also the results I record at the venue.
The shouting of the participants and thousands of pilgrims rattled the hills at that time, the sound indicating the kite race began, the moment was also the sound of rhythmic threads kite rhythmic with the tug of the wind.
Dozens of kites that were released spurred in the air, various kites such as chasing each other to ride upright-upright above the head of the participants. From each of them there is a shout of excitement for their flagship kite to continue flying high to penetrate the clouds.
But, not least the faces of the participants who feel disappointed, their kites damaged at the start of flown, there is a break off balance after lasting a few minutes in the air.
In order to survive every kite race competition, participants must have special skills in flying kites in addition to the team's seriousness and teamwork, not only that, these kite players must also understand the local situation and the wind direction.
For example, the wind is blowing westward, we and the kite position must also face westward by striving for the kite position to pass through the head of the participant controlling the yarn, keeping the wind position and direction very important.
Not only that, these kite players also have to be good at reading strategy, for example when dozens of kites are released or flown in the same place location, the kite threads will be caught on the other kite threads, the participant must be good at resisting them to avoid broken thread
To be able to survive until the specified time is over, in desperate need of skill and teamwork, a kite thread controller must also be able to be controlled with those who are struggling, they must work quickly rolling and stretching the yarn when flying the kites.
There are various shapes and names of kites in Aceh, such as 'Layang Kleung' "Geulayang Tunang" 'Layang Tunang' "Layang Reungka" 'Layang Buleun' and many other types of kites that are made of eagles which, at a certain height, eagle birds
Along with the advancement of the era we can feel when the game people "Layang Puang" has been very difficult to meet, these traditions frowned by itself. There is no more available vacant land where children play kites because almost in all regions lies the development, the factories giants, mansions, shops, stockpiling of rice terraces for housing complexes lined with walls looming high into a kite barrier to fly freely into the air.
This tradition can not only be seen as the game of the people only but in it alsocontain social and cultural values of the people of Aceh, one of which is the establishment of the nature of cooperation, cohesiveness and togetherness and value mutual cooperation.
We all must be surprised when the sharp threads are caught by using, and another fellow helps that pass through the slits of both thighs, then another melee so as not to tangle and easy to be rolled up by others, this cohesiveness and cooperation is the social value in playing kites
Will this tradition of kite play be able to keep us preserving? Let's help to tell the world whether the people of Aceh still keep flying kites should play in the space room narrow against the rapid development of the skyscrapers.
