Here's the quick rundown
Over in Malawi, people have apparently been forming up mobs and killing people that they believe to be vampires.
This all started back in mid-September but is continuing to occur and appears to be getting out of hand. The total number of lives taken has now grown to eight and doesn't look to be slowing down. Not only is it the loss of life that's disturbing, the way victims are being killed is horrendous. These mobs have been burning and stoning people to death.
Malawi is an East African country and is one of the poorest in the world. Belief in magic and the supernatural are common and widespread. The Malawian President is currently visiting different parts of the country trying to stop the death of innocents and halt the mob mentality that is at the heart of it.

My Take on the News
When I first saw the headline I had to do a double take. Halloween is almost here after all but this was actually real news. As I read over a few articles that outlined what was going on I went through the following emotions:
Disbelief -Really? People are actually being killed for nothing less than fear and ignorance.
Sorrow - My disbelief quickly turned to heartache for those unfortunate souls that actually had their life taken from them in this madness.
Realization - In my sorrow for those lives lost I also found sorrow for our species. These kind of events are a stark reminder that life looks a lot different in other parts of the world where poverty and lack of education reveal a more base level of consciousness that we are fortunate enough to have had an environment and upbringing that allowed us to move out of.
I couldn't help but be reminded of Ken Wilbur's work and levels of consciousness. If you're unfamiliar with Ken, I highly recommend you check out his research. It's pretty intense and high level but a lot of what he uncovered has resonated as highly true for me and has played a big role in shaping my path in life.
Anyway, as much as I believe our collective conscious is evolving at a quicker and quicker pace, it's stories like this that always bring me back full circle to reflect and remember that all stages of consciousness still exist in this world and we still have a lot of work to do.

Final Thoughts
This news also reminded me of two of my other recent posts. One of the posts discussed good and evil and what it really was. The main thought being that good = happiness and evil = suffering. Here we clearly see evil being created in the world...
The other post that this brought to mind was one where I shared a poem called I can't wait. The last line of the poem seems to be relevant here.
It all starts with just a simple choice between love and fear
