After playing with the Iguanas on the Sea Wall, we found an amazing tree hanging over the Intercoastal.
We were actually quite close to the tree before I realized there was a small wading bird perched in it, delicately balancing on one long, yellow leg.
Camera in hand, I carefully began taking pictures and stepping closer.
I honestly had no idea what this South Florida bird was as I had not seen it before in North Florida. I guessed it was a type of Heron due to the shape of its bill and face, but I wasn't certain.
Later that evening after some research and second guessing, I concluded it had to be a Yellow-Crowned Night Heron - which is very exciting as this was a first sighting for me.
My little buddy didn't budge the whole time and let me stand just under the tree and take as many photos as I desired.
Those eyes are priceless.
