I really want to be an effectively "Jolly Whaler" who earns the attention of her fellow Steemians fair and square.
I won't bore you with my Steemit history. If you visit my blog, you can see that I have been posting for over a year, almost every day. You'll also see that I have 1200 followers and that I have been sitting at a reputation score of 67 since the end of February. That's almost 7 months, stuck at the same reputation level, even though I am holding 11,000+ steem power in the platform.
With the influx of all the new Steemians who joined the platform 2 months ago, I have personally helped many to find their way and grow their own reputations. I regularly upvote original content, substantial comments that bring additional value to the post's subject matter and I have stepped up my re-steeming frequency.
My motivation for all of this is to give back and help grow the community at large.
What I am "NOT" doing is buying Whale votes.
To me, this practice has substantial consequences and I question if anyone else actually thinks the way that I do.
Here's what I see:
A SLIPPERY SLOPE.
- The way I see it, once you start buying votes, how can you stop? I see it as artificially inflating reputation scores.
It Feels Like "Voluntary" Organized Extortion.
- Pay this group or that group of Whales and will make sure your original content is seen by at least 6,000 people. Don't pay us and you're on your own, little fish. Many new Steemians who have just joined us don't know any different. I think, they think, this is normal practice.
It Feels Like Facebook.
- You made original content and posted but now payment is necessary if you want to achieve a certain level of exposure for your thoughts and ideas.
Is This Really The Direction The Steemit Community Wants To Go?
Please tell me what you think.
