The last community voting round was pretty close between Helix pomatia and Cetonia aurata, but in the end the roman snail took the lead. However, random results picked Cetonia aurata yet again, so in the comments is the next chance for all of you rose chafer fans ;)
Die letze Community voting Runde war ziemlich knapp zwischen Helix pomatia und Cetonia aurata, aber im Endeffekt hat die Weinbergschnecke die Führung übernommen. Random results hat jedoch wieder Cetonia aurata ausgewählt, also habt ihr Rosenkäfer Fans eine weitere Chance in den Kommentaren ;)

| This species is distributed throughout most of Europe and relatively abundant in central and eastern Europe. |
Diese Art ist in fast ganz Europa verbreitet und in Zentral und Ost Europa ziemlich häufig. |
| The preferred habitats are open forests and shrub lands with calcareous substrates , as well as gardens, vineyards and not intensively used cultural land in general. It is know to be thermophilic and remains within its habitat. |
Die bevorzugten Habitate sind offene Wälder und Buschländer, sowie auch Gärten, Weinbaugebiete und generell nicht zu intensiv genutztes Kulturland. Sie ist bekannt dafür wärmeliebend und standorttreu zu sein. |
| It has a body length of around 10 cm and a yellowish-brownish and globular shell with a diameter of up to 5 cm. |
Sie hat eine Körper Länge von ungefähr 10 cm und ein gelblich-braunes und kugeliges Gehäuse mit einem Durchmesser von bis zu 5 cm. |
| Roman snails are hermaphroditic, which means that they have both male and female gametes. However they still need to mate and during their extensive amorous play they shoot a love dart into each others foot to stimulate the mating success. |
Weinbergschnecken sind Zwitter, sie haben also sowohl weibliche, als auch männliche Geschlechtszellen. Trotzdem müssen sie sich paaren und während ihres ausgedehnten Liebesspiels schießen sie sich gegenseitig einen Liebespfeil in ihren Fuß um den Paarungserfolg zu stimulieren. |

Währen dem Winter und sehr trockenen Sommer verschließen die Schnecken ihre Gehäuseöffnung mit einem Kalkdeckel (Epiphragma), als Schutz gegen die Kälte oder die Hitze. |
