I would like to share with the community a really good experience that I had. Me and my partner went to some good places in a small area around "Praça Mauá".

Praça Mauá - downtown Rio de Janeiro
We went visit MAR - Museu de Arte do Rio, located on Praça Mauá, downtown Rio. The museum was inaugurated in 2013 and brings a propose of mix the contemporary and the popular with artists who has great value for the brazilian culture such as an approach of the audience with the history of the city, its contraditions, social relationships and wonders.

We bought tickets to visit the exhibition in the museum, I could feel and learn more about my popular culture in a amazing way. The first exhibition we went was “cronicas cariocas”, an overview of history and symbolism that echo at Rio’s street.
The train, traffic signal juggling, the nightlife, the “Jogo do Bicho”, religious syncretism, all that and much more is pictured beautifully at this exhibition which made us have a humanistic view of this history that constitute Rio de Janeiro's society.

We also visit the exhibition “J.Borges - O mestre da xilogravura”.

J. Borges is an 86 years old woodcut artist considered Living Patrimony of the Pernambuco’s state and the biggest woodcut artist from Brasil and the whole world.

Beyond the woodcut pieces, the exhibition also reserved a place for “cordel” literature, a type of popular poetry that describes the way of life of the Northeastern Brazilians.

After spending the day visiting 3-floor exhibitions of MAR, we could have the certainty of how much the Brazilian art is powerful to communicate feelings with the audience.

Then we went to have lunch at Cais do Oriente, a peculiar restaurant in the heart of Old Rio. The place was built in 1878 with bricks and whale oil and used to be a storage of spices coming from East lands. Besides the good food that is served by the chef, the place became a spot to do pictures because of its charm architecture.
