So we had a great start to the allotment this year, compared to last year certainly.
Just last weekend we managed to get a good 30% of it planted up....
We've got brassicas which a few days after this was taken look GREAT - that's purple sprouting!
We've got lots of sunflowers
And the broad beans are coming along nicely...
One slight problem - the weather
It turned VERY cool for mid May this last week - so cool we opted NOT to plant anything out even this weekend coming instead we're going to wait and do it mid week - when it gets hotter.
It's been so grotty in fact that we've not put any of our summer plants out to harden off - even in the day.
We had been doing this two weeks ago - but the weather is just too cold now....
The result is some VERY leggy looking tomatoes....
And corn.....
Final thoughts...
It's gonna be tough to harden these off gradually now - but it is what it is.... hopefully in two weeks time, that's June we'll have a full allotment!
It was obviously the right move to wait to put the delicate plants out, almost everyone who put out tomatoes, even beans, last week - all their plants are dead - except the guy in the plot next door - he seems to have bullet proof tomatoes, must have a chat to him about how on earth he managed to keep them alive when no one else has!
